Forget the IBF

If they withdraw the belt for the the Clottey v Cotto unification belt, I say that fans, fighters, promoters and other sanctioning bodies should no longer consider them a legitimate belt. It is really as simple as that, as the only reason the IBF is legitimate is because of their fighters and money. Cut them off and tell them to go **** themselves, cause they shot themselves in the foot.
Just a thought.

i feel you, BUT, same can be said for the WBA and all their interim, super, multiple belts in SAME DIVISION! The WBC and how corrupt they are with santioning fees and the WBO for being pendejos!!! The list goes on and on

If the IBF strips Clottey for fighting Cotto, they deserve no more recognition as a legit sanctioning organization.

I remember what they did to Dariusz M after he defeated Virgil Hill, they said he couldn't hold the IBF and WBO at the same time.

they think having a strap, makes them the man, that's why they pay the sanctioning fees.....

why is why, i say he deserves it if he's stripped.

In other sports you have 1 champ and one league. Sanctioning bodies are what is killing Boxing. Wouldn't you rather your champ fight Cotto than Hylatswhatever.

not true at all. fighters drop in and out of the top ten all the time. take a look at the Welterweight rankings now and the Welterweight rankings from two years ago. theyre quite different.

plus, you have all the fighters jockying for that number one position, so they would be forced to fight one another to get recongnition.

the bottom ten guys will always get the chance to fight for a title if they are really fighting the best available to them and fighting often.


and even in a worst case scenario, Id rather have the same few top fighters fighting one another than constantly having to see top level fighters fighting guys that arent even in their league, which very often happens with the alphabet belts mandatories nowadays.

Nah, say Cotto, PWill, Clottey, Mosely, and Berto are ranked 1-5 respectively and lackluster names filled the bottom 5. If Cotto were to lose to mosely and pwill were to lose to clottey, neither still wouldnt drop below to the lower tier because they are still better than that bottom five and you would have a revolving circle of the same fighters fighting one another if you consistently were trying to make the best fights, just doesnt work IMO.

don't get me wrong, in NO WAY am i knocking clottey for fighting cotto.....of course that's the fight i wanna see!

my problem is clottey decides to pay his fees to wear the belt, and he was supposed to fight the mando at the beginning of february.....wtf has he been doing? there's NO reason clottey couldn't fight the mando in february (the same time cotto had his fight), then there'd be no problem right now. this situation has come up b/c clottey has been sitting on his ass for 10 months.....or 8 months. it will be 10 by the time the cotto fight rolls around.
