He may be technically limited, but he was in astoundingly good shape for that fight and back then he had an amount of explosiveness and power that could give anyone trouble.

IMO it is verging on a sin to compare the version of Peter that fought Wladimir to the thing that goes around now.

What does that have to do with anything?


All I am saying is that, IMO, the version of Sam Peter that fought Wladimir was up to standard for a top HW contender. If all of the Heavies that fought the Klitschkos were at that level then I think the division would be nowhere near as boring. The problem is we have shot old men, fat Cruisers and defensive-minded bores fighting them for the title.

Peter was never up to the standard of a top contender, he was just one of the better fighters in the worst division in the history of the sport. And he almost knocked Wlads head off.

That version of Peter would have been a top contender in most eras I think. You are underestimating him. Attempt to look past the fat, unmotivated slob that carries his name today. In his absolute prime he was a very reasonable fighter.

Sorry I just think Peter sucks and always had, I get the feeling his "Prime" was an illusion.
