I noted in that thread that both fighters were defensive masters and that really, it was a matter of preference : Which style you prefer.

Floyd's elusive shoulder roll defensive style is certainly more eye catching than Winky's high guard.

But I noted that the only way to know for sure which fighter had the better defense, would be to take 5 fights, from each fighter, and crunch the numbers.

This is what I've found in my research.............

    Ronald "Winky" Wright

Shane Mosley - In the first Mosley/Wright fight, "Sugar" Shane managed to land 166 punches out of a total of 624 punches thrown : A connect percentage of a mere 27%.

Wright, on the other hand, managed to land 250 punches out of a total of 756 punches thrown : A connect percentage of 33%.

Shane Mosley (Rematch) - In the rematch, "Sugar" Shane managed to land 154 out of 642 total punches : A connect percentage of 24%, even worse than the first fight.

In the rematch, "Winky" managed to land 273 shots out of 662 total punches thrown : A connect percentage of 41%.

Felix "Tito" Trinidad - In the Wright/Trinidad fight, "Tito" only managed to land 58 punches, out of a total of 557 thrown. A connect percentage of 10%. Pitiful.

Wright, on the other hand, managed to land 262 out of 756 total punches thrown : Landing at a connect percentage of 35%.

Jermain Taylor - In the Taylor/Wright fight, Jermain Taylor managed to land 163 of 703 punches, landing at a connect percentage of 23%.

Wright landed 226 out of 643, landing at a connect percentage of 35%.

Bernard Hopkins In the Hopkins/Wright fight, Bernard Hopkins landed 152 out of 640 punches thrown, a connect percentage of 24%.

Wright landed 167 out of 618 punches thrown, a connect percentage of 27%.

Average the totals of those 5 fights together, and Wright gets hit a total of 693 times in those 5 fights. Winky manages to connect on his opponets 1,178 times over the course of those 5 fights.

    Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Jesus Chavez - In the Chavez fight, Chavez only manages to land 182 of 925 total punches thrown - A connect percentage of 20%.

Floyd lands 197 of 456 total punches thrown - A connect percentage of 43%.

Jose Luis Castillo (Rematch) - In the rematch with Castillo (I couldn't dig up the Compubox numbers on their first fight at all.), Jose Luis Castillo lands 132 of 600 total punches thrown - A connect percentage of 23%.

Opposite him, Mayweather connects with 162 of 396 total punches thrown - Landing at an impressive 41%.

Carlos Baldomir - Against Mayweather, Baldomir manages to land only 79 shots out of 690 thrown. A connect percentage of a mere 12%.

Mayweather lands 199 shots out of the 458 shots he threw, gaining a connect percentage of 43%.

Oscar De La Hoya - Oscar lands 122 punches of the 587 punches he throws in this one. Landing at a connect percentage of only 21%.

Mayweather lands 207 out of 481 punches thrown, keeping his connect percentage at 43%.

Ricky Hatton - Against Floyd, Ricky is only able to muster 63 shots landed, out of a total of 372 punches thrown.

Mayweather, on the other hand, lands 129 out of 329 punches thrown : A connect percentage of 39%.

Average the total of those 5 fights together, and Floyd gets hit a total of 578 times (115 times less than Wright in his 5 fights), while managing to connect on his opponet 924 times (landing 254 times less than Wright, over the course of his 5 fights).

And that's how you crunch the numbers.
    let me help you out...

I really wanted both Castillo fights because on Wright, I included both Mosley fights.
No, I think you did it on purpose. *****.
