    Calzaghe picks Hatton over Pacquiao!

    Calzaghe picks Hatton over Pacquiao
    03/29/2009 | 05:04 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Joe Calzaghe, one of only a handful world champions ever to retire undefeated, likes the chances of fellow British fighter Ricky Hatton against Filipino super star Manny Pacquiao.

The Welsh fighter, who retired last month after piling up an immaculate 46-0 card, noted that Hatton’s advantage in size gives him a better shot at winning the mythical pound for pound title against Pacquiao than he did against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

"It's going to be a tough fight for Ricky. But he's got a better chance of beating Manny than against Mayweather," the former supermiddleweight kingpin was quoted in a report by doghouseboxing.com.

The Welsh fighter claimed Hatton has the arsenal to get the better of reigning P4P king Pacquiao in their May 2 duel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hatton previously vied for the P4P throne but fumbled against the now retired Mayweather.

"Ricky definitely has height advantage (against Pacquiao) so if he can close the range and cut him down he has a great chance of winning," Calzaghe said, adding: "He's got to take his chance. You've got to go for it, plus you can make a fortune."

Hatton and Pacquiao are set for an action-packed battle with the “Hitman" staking his International Boxing Organization (IBO) world junior welterweight title. –GMANews.TV

I wouldn't say he's picking Hatton, just stating that Hatton has a better chance at beating Pacquiao then he did beating Mayweather - which is true.

He could be right, I'm still under the feelin' that the ODH fight didn't tell us a lot. Everything can happen, and I'm not ruling any of those two out.

I do not think Joe's is a reliable opinion as as these two, two-weight World Champions are from the same nation; the United Kingdom.

They are also known to be very good friends.

Hatton may be the most powerful World Champion that the light-welterweight division has ever seen, but sadly I do not believe that he stands a chance against the greatest fighter on the planet, and I reckon Joe knows this deep down. If there was a match or competition to decide who was the greatest or the most altruistic man, Hatton would beat every boxer, thanks to the huge amount that he does for various charities. However, he will not beat Manny, who is simply on another level to the likes of Castillo and Tszyu.
