I'm sure it's racially motivated, Adolf. The white man has had it so rough on this planet

I'm just calling it as I see it. Wladimir is good in his own right but in comparison to Lewis, he just pales. No pun intended. Lewis was prime-time baby, he just rose to the occasion. We haven't seen Wladimir rise to the occasion.

There are plenty of great "white" fighters like Rocky Marciano, Benny Leonard and Willie Pep. Why are you making this a race issue?

to be fair, Holyfield did handle Mercer, I think right before the Lewis fight.

although come to think about it, Holyfield always had a field day with those kind of fighters...probably from all that early experience he got in the first Qawi fight...

anyways, Mercer put up a fairly good fight against Wlad despite being almost 40. marked up his eyes fairly well with his jab, if I remember correctly. although Wlad put a beating on him overall.

I thought Mercer was on his way to a victory early on against Holyfield. He was making him look old until he tired.

I dont know, it seemed pretty one sided to me down the stretch. Im pretty sure he dropped him in the 8th or something with a right hand.

been a while since Ive seen that fight, to be honest. might be forgetting some key points.

I couldn't imagine Wladimir handling that sort of pressure the way he did while still remaining aggressive. That was a very small ring: I saw Lewis' back touch the ropes more times in that fight I've ever seen in any other fights.

Mercer kept the left jab in his face and forced Lewis to trade shots. He worked Mercer's body effectively, threw incredible combinations upstairs and downstairs, and landed some heavy, heavy right hands.

Wladimir is an amazing boxer, no doubt about it, but he hasn't yet shown that desire to go out and be great. Granted, he probably didn't have the fighters around to do it against, but nonetheless I have yet to see that definitive performance that will assert him as a meaningful heavyweight champion.
How long have you been following Lewis?

If you say "from the start" I'll give you one of these for just realizing that Lewis is by far the better fighter and never seeing how great he was when he was truly in his prime/younger.

If you say "I'm new to Lewis and have been watching some tape that I never saw before of him," then I'll give you and say welcome.

yeah mercer and lewis fought a hell of a fight i still think ray mercer won that fight

Well, I was 1 years old when he fought in the Olympics so I couldn't have been there for the beginning. I've seen every fight of note from Lewis and the Klitschkos though. I just never thought about it to make comparisons previously.

Watching Lewis in a tough fight where he had to dig deep made me realize how much better he was than Wladimir.

I can only recall Wladimir really digging deep and succeeding once, and that was the Sam Peter fight where he nearly caved in. Lewis kept his cool the whole way through the intelligent pressure of Mercer.

LL is retired. How the hell does the LL-Mercer fight help decide who's better between LL and Wlad? I mos def agree that LL>Wlad, but I dunno how the Mercer fight can be accurately used as a measurin stick. Wlad ain't faced a style matchup like that I can recall off the top of my head.

We saw Wladimir in the cooker against Sam Peter and Lamon Brewster. Against Peter he had to climb off the canvas three times and with Brewster in the first fight he fell apart.

Lennox just seemed to flow better as well.
