Brian Minto will fight Matt Greer on April 17

Heavyweight Brian Minto will face Matt Greer (12-4) on Apr 17.

The pot-bellied Greer was KOed in his last fight by the light-punching Kevin Johnson.

I was kind of hoping Minto would fight a top 50 heavyweight like himself this time, but it will be still another soft opponent.

Since Minto fought Luan Krasniqi a few years back, he's been fighting (and KO'ing) a "bum of the month." I think that he wants the big fight (he was calling out Arreola earlier this year) but for some reason he's stuck fighting this low level opposition every 3-4 months.

Brian Minto is the quintessential limited fighter who can move tickets in his hometown. Since he can keep that steady stream of income, he doesn't have to take risks. This is a guy who went life-and-death with Vinny Maddalone, who is an extremely limited fighter. His first loss to a 50-year-old Tony Tubbs told me all I needed to know about him.

He will only step up once a big money fight comes around. It just goes to show that you don't have to beat anyone to get the big fights, you just have to stay active and present minimal risk.

Still padding his record...I guess he knows there's no point in trying to climb the ladder when a Klitschko is waiting at the top

Why not? A fight with Klitschko earns you no less than a million $$...

It would also completely extinguish any future earning potential.

I think $1 million today is worth more than the $100-300K per year for the next 5-10 years (and that's a generous estimate).

Keeping it 100% real, do you think HBO would enter the thought of having Minto fight a Klitschko with Haye, Arreola and Povetkin on deck?

                  No, you're wrong about that.

Losing to a Klitschko is not a disgrace. Most of their opponents continued on afterwards. Danny Williams is still fighting years after his loss to Vitali, as is Herbie Hide.

Barrett, Williamson, Peter, Moli, and even old Botha and Mercer are still active, years after their losses to Wlad.

The reality is, is that Brian Minto is not going to get a title shot against either Klitschko. However, if he did get a win against a notable opponent, I wouldn't rule out a title shot against the WBA incumbent champion...
