Maybe if you're hurt and need to buy time but as a strategy for the fight itself to excessively hold is a recipe for a boring ass frustrating unwatchable match.
I cant respect a guy who holds that much. It implies he is afraid to fight. No other conclusion can be drawn. Well actually it could also imply that his stamina is not where it should be.

Dude if you need video of Floyd using his elbows to make space... You need to get out of the BOXING forum and stay on your HATE WHITEY thread....

Rule's are there to be enforced, different refs have different levels of strictness, not every rule can be enforced to pin point accuracy.

Thats why a ref can have ALOT of say in a fight.

If Marlon Wright had wanted Andrade to win, he would have carried on the count, noone would have complained.

If Marlon Wright had wanted Bute to win, he would have stopped the count, noone can really complain because he's sticking to the rules.
ali was the biggest cheater in the history of boxing. it just proves (like hopkins/floyd etc) that the greater a fighter and the bigger their name the more that the ref lets them slide. it's a sad side effect but hey you can't do anything about it so if you want to beat the champ you better make sure you dominate them and knock them the **** out cus u know damn well they're probably going to get a decision over you if it's close AND the ref will be more lenient to them when they cheat as most champs do

I never read the rule book so I'm not 100% positive on the rule, but people have clinched/grappled throughout history and got away with it in certain fights. I think in the end, it depends on the ref enforcing it.

Maybe it was a different fight game back then, but Johnson held a lot.

But then you go to Dempsey, and look at the ref in this fight:

Also look at Dempsey when he is being clinched.

there's videos of tyson going so low in ducking opponents that his ass basically grazes the ring canvas. the ref doesn't say **** to him ever.
