Adrian Diaconu Wants Big Fights, Big Action in 2009

WBC light heavyweight champion Adrian Diaconu (25-0, 15KOs) can't seem to catch a break. Inactive for nearly a year, hea beat Chris Henry last April for the WBC Interim title. He was the mandatory to then full champion Chad Dawson but the fight never happened when Dawson vacated the full title for an opportunity to face Antonio Tarver. Diaconu would then become the full champion and he still can't seem to secure a big fight. He was training for a May bout with veteran Silvio Branco and now that fight is off after Branco suffered an injury. Instead Diaconu will return this Friday in a non-title bout against David Whittom (10-7-1, 6KOs), and earn only a fraction of the $227,000 he would have earned for Branco. [details]

I just hope Diaconu will still be sharp in the ring after all his inactivity.

WBC rules are getting f***king tyrannical, (same goes with the IBF) I understand fighters need to follow the guidelines, but they need to loosen up the rules a bit. Silvio Branco should no longer be the mandatory anymore, he already blew his opportunity. I want see some meaningful fights. Glen Johson is rated #1, Johnson deserves his shot against Diaconu more then Branco does.

Dawson still has to fight his mandatory Tavoris Cloud.
Winner of Diaconu/Johnson fights Dawson for unification for the WBC/IBF titles.

Not for nothing, but I rather see Diaconu face Shaun George or even Tavoris Cloud. I'm tired of hearing about Glen Johnson, and how nobody wants to fight him. George has been calling Johnson out for years. I don't even know what to say about Cloud. I've only seen him fight once. Against a target he couldn't miss. I looked up his record. He fought a bunch of nobody. How is this guy Cloud #1, and now he wants to wait around for his payday. Interesting... I don't understand The ranking system anymore.

Johnson is the next highest ranked contender, I'm sure he'd be willing to fight Diaconu.

Here's another guy who totally stalled out his momentum. I forgot about him. glen johnson would be a huge risk, but a big win. At least johnson has a name and if he wins, he beat the guy that gave Daswon hell that Dawson won't fight again.
