I'm glad you brought up Dracula. The "Trans Terror" (fishnets, anyone?) lulled me to sleep with his predictable hugging style. He clinched so much he made John Ruiz look like Diego Corrales. Not to mention, I hated his ring entrances. All that smoke would get in my eyes and you never knew when one of them bats would take a **** on your head. It was ******. What is this, the WWE?
Don't even get me started on the double standard. Dracula can bite but Tyson can't?
And you know what? Nosferatu ruined Dracula (even though neither could take a punch, really, because they always looked weight-drained). That's a very unpopular thing to say considering Drac is a household name. They fought like 8 times and Nos dished out more than he took. Drac's popularity got him so many undeserving decisions. I'm not even going to get into all the legal problems between those two.
A lot of people felt the Drac and Nos fights were fixed, or at the very least, those rematch clauses made the whole thing very suspect. Fans paid good money to basically see the same fight over and over. My man Freddy, though, was always wicked with the tongue. When asked his thoughts about "Bite of the Century VIII," he retorted, "Ah, those two blood-suckers can have each other. They're just draining the people's wallets. Drac and Nos couldn't beat me in their dreams, much less in the ring."
If I was Freddy, I wouldn't have fought Drac without a blood test either. Dracula's refusal to take one raised quite a few eyebrows about his health status. But the annoying Draculites always accused Freddy of running.
I agree, however, that the Frankenstein fight would have been tough at that stage of Freddy K's career. Frank Bruiser was slow-as-hell and a journeyman, no doubt, but he fought anywhere, including the most faraway hostile places you can imagine. Riots were not uncommon at his fights. His mish-mash style could give anybody problems and he had incredible power (I can't even watch that Jake LaMotta bloodbath again). But with that weight and height advantage, forget it. Freddy was tough and resilient himself, but he kept needing more and more time to recover after those grueling wars he was in.
I've been accused of being a Freddy K nut-hugger before, but I truly believe he has one last big performance left.
Rematch...?
