Chavez Jr Edges Cuello; Competition Upgrade Promised

By Jake Donovan - It was a night of spirited action from the beginning to end of “Latin Fury 8.” The night was topped by undefeated junior middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr surviving a major gut check to earn a ten-round unanimous decision win over previously unbeaten Luciano Cuello.

The bout served as the main event of a four-fight pay-per-view show, aired live from Plazas de Toros in Tijuana, Baja Cruz, Mexico.

Chants of “Chavez, Chavez” filled the Tijuana bullring even before the opening bell rang. The visiting Cuello didn’t seem immediately intimidated, rushing Chavez the moment the fight began. Chants of “Chavez” once again picked up, and the Mexican responded in kind, repeatedly connecting with his left hook to the body even as he was forced to fight in reverse. Cuello remained undeterred, cornering Chavez after connecting with a jab and right hand in the final thirty seconds of the round. [details]

What if that was Angulo or Kirkland in there? That guy had no power and he marked him up good. This guy headlines pay per views...haha. He should be the first fight in B.A.D.

The only thing remotely interesting about the article is him stepping up in competition. Not interested till he does. Maybe after fight number 50.
Then we got HIS fans talking about "go easy on him, he has no amateur background".
Like he was forced not to have an amateur background and he was forced to take the money he makes as a professional (using dads recognition).
Sorry I don't feel sorry for grown men who KO's people for a living.

He is what he is right now he's a B+ fighter and may never get above that. He's a lil slow and doesn't have enough power to slug. Even in pretty weak divisions at 154 and 160 he may never hold a belt. But I've never heard anybody but Bob Abrum say he is any better than that. People have to start hating on him because all you're doing is hyping the kid by saying he needs to step up in competition. It just shows that you have interest in the kid even if he isnt proven. Nobody in this world thinks he is an elite fighter. He is a fringe top 10 but not top 10 yet. Duddy seems like the most logical fight both are fringe top 10 the winner should be considered a solid top 10 guy and then take on the top of the division.

The same thing that happened to Hearns Jr last night is going to happen to Chavez Jr. As soon as the competition is raised to the next level.

The Chavez jr. fight was pretty entertaining. It was no Chavez vs Vanda 1, but it was pretty good. Open scoring did kill the drama in it like they said. I scored it 95-95. My boy had it 96-94 for Cuello. I don't see Cuello as too much of a step up from Matt Vanda. Also, keep in mind, that Vanda and Cuello don't have any power. If they had power they would have both knocked Chavez jr out. Chavez jr vs Cuello seriously looked like a middle weight fighting a light weight. With all this said, I seriously hope Chavez jr. vs Duddy is next. That would be one entertaining fight. Two guys with no head movement what so ever, and very little defense. Duddy is naturally bigger then Cuello and Vanda and with that said I lean towards Duddy winning that fight by KO.

What i would like to know is outside of his promoter who exactly is hyping him as anything more than a B+ fighter???

Seriously even Chavez JR himself understands he hasn't accomplished much in his career so again who is exactly hyping him?

Seriously i think haters on this message board are doing a much better job at hyping the guy because if he does beat anyone of merit in the future they are gonna make a solid win against a solid fighter look like he beat the PFP king because so many of you are underestimating him.
