    how ******. fighting for a vacant interim title? its completely unnecessary. they jsut killed the whole point of an 'interim' title.

    oh wait, I forgot...the WBO doesnt count as a belt.

            Unfortunately he would have to go after the WBC or WBA belts to get a shot at the best in the division as, like in any Japanese-controlled weight class, the IBF and WBO title holders will be excluded from unification bouts.

                  THis was a set-up fight to get Montiel a title. Yes, he looked great, but against a guy who had done nothing to deserve a spot in the top 50 in the division, let alone a fight for the title. BFD

                    It doesn't look pointless to me, Gerry Penalosa will hold his title until the Lopez fight. This way they make sure that Montiel is full champ when Vic moves up, instead of being ranked #1 and fighting against #2 for the vacant belt. Then, presto! Full world-class santioning fees all around. Less risk, more reward.
