Negotiations for a proposed bout between Arthur Abraham and Vernon Forrest are now off. Forrest appears to be heading in the direction of a summer showdown with his WBC mandatory Sergio Martinez. Abraham's promoters, Sauerland Event, are in talks with Main Events to stage a summer bout between Arthur and the mandatory challenger to his IBF middleweight title, Giovanni Lorenzo. The fight with Lorenzo is suppoossed to be an "interim-bout" before a potential fall showdown between Abraham and WBC/WBO champion Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik defends against Sergio Mora on June 27 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. [details]

I know Lorenzo was beaten by Marquez, but he's still a good fighter. This fight will be far from easy money for Abraham, and that's coming from a big fan of the King. I think Lorenzo will provide Abraham with a stiffer challenge than Raul Marquez and Lajuan Simon did combined. In his last fight, besides being dominant, Lorenzo just had a look of hunger in his eyes that was telling. Abraham would be foolish to look past him and forward to Kelly Pavlik.Comment

Lorenzo is a tough kid.
Abraham better keep his weight down and not have to crash it off like he did for the fight with Simon. If he comes in weight-drained against Lorenzo, he may lose.Comment

Doesn't really matter who he is fighting in between as long as the Pavlik fight gets made. Hopefully there will be no upsets / injuries.Comment

I kind of like this fight. Lorenzo is a solid fighter with huge power. You cant do much better considering the circumstances.Comment
