Professional to Amateur...

I was just thinking about 15 minutes ago randomly (day off college and bored to death!), about what if an amateur boxer went professional and didn't enjoy it or achieve much and realized it was a mistake, would they be able to go back down to amateurs?

Sorry don't wanna sound dumb, it just came across my mind and I have never gave it thought before.

No, once you get paid, you are no longer an amateur

Cool, that's what I thought but needed reassuring. People should give it some serious thought before they turn Pro then.

Not that I know of but I've heard of amateur boxers having pro fights while not leaving the amateur ranks. I think Chagaev had two when he was still an amateur and Maskaev had 5 (?) when he was still an amateur, Maskaev's fights aren't listed on boxrec though.

In the uk can can have 2 pro fights and go back to the amateurs.
