You're wrong any holding to gain an advantage is illegal............ which is obviously what Wlad's uses it for.

Go learn the rules before discussing them will you.

Clinching to a degree is a part of boxing. Everyone does it. Some do it excessively.

Argue whatever the hell you want, Haye did not lose because of Wlad's clinching/holding. I know Haye let you down but its time to let it go.

Why do you keep digging up old articles?

Haye is irrelevant. This whole thread is irrelevant.

I'm talking about Wlad in general, clinching is part of boxing if done as a last resort not tactically to prevent the oppositions attack. That's when it becomes illegal.

Like Ward-Kessler. That included headbutts, too, though; which are also illegal...

If I had to guess, I'd say about 70 - 80% of boxers clinch without it being a last resort. I watched a fight today where Donald clinched Cooper multiple times without it being "a last resort", I watched another fight today where Lopez clinched Ortiz multiple times without it being "a last resort", and I could name countless other fights where boxers have done it without being "a last resort".

Boxers often using clinching as a way of avoiding infighting. Lewis did it all the time and so did Ali. Holyfield did it repeatedly against Tyson. Actually, everyone did it against Tyson.

I counted Ruiz initiating 163 clinches against Golota. The referree took a point away for punching behind the head, but didn't even give a warning to him for clinching. Idiotic Klitschko-haters want Wladimir disqualified for doing something Ruiz did more without even getting a warning.

i used to ref and technicly speaking its illegal.

well......holding is illegal but relativly accepted.

clinching is legal, the formal difference is that a clinch is mutual.

but yeah in the pro ranks more is tolerated.......for instance i never understood how Lewis could hold with his left, uppercut with his right AND get away with it
