Do People Really Believe Mayweather is Bad for Boxing?

Look I get it. He's much better for the sport when he's involved in mega matchups. Only a handful of fighters can even participate in those and even fewer still can participate in one virtually every time they step into the ring. But Mayweather hasn't fought in over a year and this board is bombarded with Mayweather threads both negative and positive.

Those who have a favorable opinion of him hate the volume of negative threads. Those who have a negative opinion of him go APE**** anytime someone says something positive about Mayweather. But do y'all really believe THAT is bad for the sport? Look at college basketball you have UNC and Duke. The two most popular teams and the two most hated teams. Then NBA basketball...you have Kobe Bryant. Simultaneously the most popular and hated player in the league.

Celebrities throughout the sports world are pretty much the same Lance Armstrong, Danica Patrick, Tiger Woods, etc. The key world is celebrity. Like it or hate it, Mayweather is now a sport celebrity and that's the reason why he does half the **** that he does. I'm an IRL fan, and I can tell you in the IRL bubble just about everyone hates Danica Patrick, but would IRL get half the sponsorship dollars that it does without her being hot and having that attitude? Hell no. In the end, it helps the IRL out as much as people in that bubble hate that she make more money coming in 5th than anyone competing for the title.

Mayweather on the other hand earned his top spot. Now, everyone wants to fight him. So, yes he should fight the top fighters. But I'm not talking out of my a$$ when I say that outside of the boxing bubble fans aren't nearly as picky as many of us are when it comes to who Mayweather should fight.

Watch these two interview and tell me who does the interviwer wants to see fight

This is some real **** check this out:

The problem is with so called HARDCORE fans, is that some of them dont Appreciate
    The casual Fans

It used to be that people who love fighting...

    Would become Boxers....or watch boxing

Therefore The Sport of boxing would always have a continue flow of willing fighters....and Casual Fans

    Those Days are over...

Fighters dont need boxing to become a famous fighter ANYMORE and niether does the CASUAL FAN...

When there is MMA, WWE, ELITE, CAGE, AND NOW STREET FIGHTING....

Boxing never before had competition like this before..Now its does ...
and you can see it when

More people know Chuck Liddel then Miguel Cotto and Margarito Combined
More People Know Kimbo Slice then Miguel Cotto and Margarito Combined

That's the Problem WITH BOXING RIGHT NOW...It needs well known Fighters like Mayweather and De La Hoya fighting ...To keep Boxing in the Mainstream....because without them...or somebody coming up just like them...

Boxing is in serious Jeopardy to be Replace in the spotlight by these other sports....

Just ask the causal fan who they recognized more Chuck Lidell and Kimbo Slice or Miguel Cotto and Joe Calzaghe...

    Boxing Needs the Casual Fans.
Therefore Boxing Needs the De la Hoya vs. Mayweather fights
    The Hatton vs. Mayweather fights
    The Pacquaio vs. Mayweather fights

Because it brings exposure to the sport

Listen To These to CasUal Fans Talking About Boxing..

    WATCH FROM 4:00-5:59

Saying PBF is bad for boxing is a kin to saying defensive football and basketball teams are bad for thier respective sports. Like the steelers and celtics.

the problem with floyd is when oscar made him a superstar he didnt pass it on by fighting guys like marg, cotto, mosley, williams. he chose instead to retire and avoid the tough fights. it was floyds duty to pass on what delahoya passed to him so the sport would benefit.

Dog get out here with that TOP WW nonsense...

Who was the last undisputed champion in the ww division?

it seems to me the rest of the ww need to fight each other so one of them can be called the undisputed champion. instead of just a pack of fighters in a division
