Quick Question for the Cotto Fans

I'll admit that I'm not particularly well informed with the details surrounding his promotional status and business ventures. I understand that his contract is set to expire soon and that he already owns and operates his own promotional company. Beyond that I don't know too many details.

What I'm interested in knowing is, how likely is it that he'll fight again for Top Rank after his June fight against Clottey? Is it even in his interest to fight again in 2009 when considering when his contract is set to expire, the calibre of fight Bob Arum might be able to deliver in the waning months of Cotto's contract, etc.?

From where I'm sitting, it seems as though if Cotto were to come through his June fight victorious against Clottey, he should just sit on the bench for a few months until his Top Rank contract expires and then go after the big fights against the likes of Hatton/Mayweather/Marquez/Mosley.

The only fight Top Rank might be able to offer him that could be worth sticking around and/or fighting under their banner this fall is the Pacquiao fight, but I guess the real question at that point is whether or not Arum would even be willing to make that fight without demanding Cotto re-sign with Top Rank.

Any informed opinions and comments on the matter would be greatly appreciated. The rest of you have at it.

i think cotto should wait till the contract expires after he fights clottey. at this point pacman is the only big fight arum can offer him but i agree, bob will try to make him re-sign. i dont think cotto vs pac gets made this year since floyd is coming back. if he beats clottey he should face mosley and end his ties to top rank. he could do better own his own or in a joint venture with gbp. i perfer he go on his own.

I too think that he should go on his own and co-promote with Golden Boy whenever he fights a Golden Boy fighter. I'm curious to know the details of the contract though. If anyone knows what the possible legal scenarios are I'm interested in seeing them.
