"Junior" or "Super"?

Just out of sheer curiosity, how do all of you refer to the other nine divisions in boxing? Do you call it Junior Featherweight or Super Bantamweight?

I ask this because personally one of my biggest pet peeves is that I can't stand to hear someone refer to a "Junior" division as "Super".

I understand that technically "Super" would be the proper term because there is a division that is unanimously called Super Middleweight, but Super Welterweight to me doesn't sound nearly as... important if you will, as Junior Middleweight. Doesn't roll off the tongue as well, I guess.

Probably over-thinking this, but oh well.

wbc/wba uses the term super.

wbo/ibf uses the term junior.

140 for example is super lightweight to wbc/wba and junior welterweight to ibf/wbo.

amateurs/europeans also like to use light i think. 140 would be light welterweight.

I usually go with junior personally.

Junior middle
Junior welter etc....it just sounds better to me.

flyweight 112 , bantamweight 118 , featherweight 126 , lightweight 135 , welterweight 147 , middleweight 160 , light heavyweight 175 , cruiserweight 200 and heavyweight 201+ is all we need.

I understand the sanctioning bodies have their own way. But still, which way do you refer to it as?

I usually refer to 168 and 130 as super, the rest as junior. Not sure I've ever heard of junior light heavyweight, lol.

You see I only refer to 168 as Super and everything else as Junior. I go friggin' nuts when Showtime refers to Vic Darchinyan as a Super Flyweight because I see him as a Junior Bantamweight.

I would rather be a "Super" than "Junior".

I remember when I first got into the fight game, I was a touch confused by this. I thought Super was a different level of competition and Junior was like sort of class below professional or something.

Once it the weight classes was explained to me I understood, but to someone on the street, super and Junior might be a bit confusing for casual fans.

Crap, I voted wrong. I use BoxRec's naming conventions. I would never, ever refer to any weight class as "Junior". It sounds really weedy and childish, especially how Hatton says it - "Jeeewnyer Welterwaaayt".

Otherwise, if I'm talking with knowledgeable associates of mine, I'll use the pound numbers almost exclusively. I find it easier and sharper to say "168" instead of "super middleweight", etc.

And couldn't super featherweight effectively be light-lightweight?

It's the same thing, but I've always called em super.
