The top welters are all bigger than Hatton and have all the physical advantages. The best division for a boxer is the lowest weight division you can make weight comfortably. The only reason to move up is if your finding it hard to make weight or you can't get big fights, Hatton don't need to move up.

Wasn't des*****g he was big for 140, was just saying that he's a small welter in comparison to most of the other top dogs.
And as for Mayweather, you wont find a quote from me anywhere that says Hatton beats him at any weight.

So why is all of this BS, of Hatton not being a WW, or he is not the same? I think thats bull ****, he met 2 fighters better than him st WW thats all!!!!!!!!
I dont think its that simple and his conditioning may be a big factor. For pretty much all of his career he has let it all go in between fights but manages somehow to get to 140 for his fights.I think that is just what his body has become used to.It is a little hard to say though,as he has only had 2 fights at welterweight.Sure he didnt look too great against Collazo but was doing fine in the early part of his bout with Floyd and you have to hand it to Floyd for a great performance that night. If he had stuck it out at welter after the Collazo fight he may well have found it easier as he went along.

I think he only stands a chance against one of them and even then I would bet on the other guy winning.
          Berto? ......

I reckon he would break Williams in 2. But then again I think everyone would break that skinny fecker in two with a body shot. I'm still waiting.
I think he'd beat Berto, and lose an enteraining close fight with Cotto at a catchweight of 144ish. 147 Cotto hurts Hatton at his own game.
Mosley beats him easily (assuming he fights like he did against Marg, cant rule out that he might not be able to pull of as good a win as that again at this stage of his career.)
And Marg should be in jail so forget about him.
He stands a chance against Berto, I would favour Berto though. I think Cotto and Mosley both KO Hatton.

Hatton as a very small reach compared to WW when he fights them. Floyd had something like a 5inch reach on him in the fight.

                  this should sum things up.

I'd pick Hatton over the lower welters. He's a pretty good fighter, but just lacks the defense (and arguably the chin) to beat the top welters.

yeah and he got a ****ing gift against Collazo. Mosley boxed Collazo's ears off and hardly broke a sweat.

It shows you the difference in skill levels. Without a size/strength advantage Hatton goes from a very good fighter to an average fighter.

Ok Malignaggi doesnt punch hard but we knew that before the fight. Many people (including some reputable boxing writers) said that Paulie would be to fast for Ricky, and would outbox him from the outside. What happened, Ricky outboxed him, outjabbed him and outspeed him. Paulie was the one who was holding not Ricky - If Ricky had completley no skill as was suggested by the guy I replied to he would simply have joined him in the man love. Instead, he kept his head, outclassed him on the outside, and blasted him with body shots when he managed to get his hands, and on some occassions his hips and leg's free of Paulie's grip.
