Demetrius Andrade Breaks Quickly From The Gate

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - By any measure, step one has been a smashing success for Demetrius Andrade.

Disappointed in a quest for an Olympic gold to cap his prolonged amateur career last summer, the youngster’s subsequent transition to the professional ranks has made it appear as if any post-Games emotional baggage is long forgotten.

In fact, if anything, it’s now fuel for the fire.

The Rhode Island native ended his fourth for-pay outing on Friday night in exactly the same way he’d closed the first three – with a dominant stoppage performance that’s already got people calling him the sport’s top young prospect. [details]

De la hoya said he would retire by 30, Hopkins promised his mother he wouldn't fight past 40. Pretty standard talk by a up and coming fighter.

        BooBoo is the man.

I've gotten word they are trying to set him up with sparring Vernon Forrest in Georgia if Forrest decides to face southpaw Sergio Martinez.

Yea man he's got tons of potential.

His father was supposed to work my corner for the golden gloves but USA Boxing wouldn't let me box because I had a concussion 4 days prior and no I didn't get KOd, it was an accumulation of everything I endured in a training camp away from home in georgia I got really sick and kept getting headaches I don't really know what happened by the doctors said I had a slight concussion.

andrade's people need to put him in with better guys, he's padding his record with alot of KO's of bums, it's time to put him in with another young prospect and see what the kid's really made of, he's had 250 amatuer fights, the bums he's been knocking out are a step down the level of comp he'd been fighting in the am's

Kids only been pro a few months. The ams and pros are different. He's still making thew transition. Why risk fighting a very tough opponent when you haven't fully transitioned yet and you have so much potential. If you have a lot of potential, you should do it right. Gain some confidence, get used to hitting/being hit with smaller gloves, used to fighting without headgear, used to the change in scoring and rules. After a couple more fights in the pro ranks he'll be ready for a decent step up. He's just doing what just about every prospect does. So when the time comes, he will be ready.

the bum he knocked out last time never landed a single clean punch on him, he's ready for at least a better level of club fighter

Live on ESPN, new prospect, Olympian, potential future star

put him in with someone he will look spectacular against to get people talking and buzzing. Whether negative or positive, they're still talking. Introduce him to the people who haven't seen him.

It's all part of the game.

I work for a promotional company and I box so I'm really learning the way all these promoters think.

But I agree, hopefully we will see him in with a slightly better opponent for his next fight.
