I do think nationality has something to do with it but that's the case for every foreign fighter trying to prove themselves on American soil. I think Vitali was beginning to catch the attention of the American audience with his exciting knockout performances until he retired due to injuries for 3 years.

Wladimir was also thought to be an exciting prospect with little criticism directed at him until he was knocked out by Corrie Sanders.

Lets not forget that it was not until after Lennox Lewis retired that he was finally given the respect he deserved. This might be the case for the Klitschko brothers as well.
