This is exactly right. Roy Jones is significantly diminished, but by no means shot. It is just that at this stage of his career, Calzaghe is stylistically a horrible matchup for Roy.

Roy let his hands go from the start to the finish.... this is the best Roy has looked in a loooong time.

He beat 45 other guys first ::shrugs:: While I don't find his style particularly fun to watch, if Calzaghe's an automatic first ballot HOFer, is it really that bad to get beaten by him a week shy of your 40th birthday? To be honest, that fight made me a bigger fan of Roy than ever before when he kept fighting through that cut. That was Gatti-esque determination right there.

Yeah, of course it isn't a bad defeat. The guy was a top p4p fighter and the Ring champ at 175. I didn't expect Roy to win that fight but it was still kind of tough watching him just kind of ride it out after the 7th.

Whilst Sheika was not really a live opponent on the night I think Roy showed enough that he can still be competitive with some of the top guys at 175. Whether he can beat them or not is a separate matter. I definately want Roy to steer way clear of Dawson at this stage.

While I agree, I think those are the opponents Roy WILL look for. He can't just run around and fight Omar Sheika's collecting checks along the way. If he seriously wants to make one more big run at the division, Dawson will undoubtably be in his future. If he fights the way he did last night, I don't see ONE LHW out there who he isn't giving REAL problems. Only time will tell and I wish him the best.

Jones looked pretty good and it is ffunny how some people right him off as being done when even rjj at this age can still beat almost all the b and b+ fighters out there. He is by no means done.

I think he'll go for a rematch with Glenn Johnson. Roy admits he took Johnson lightly the first fight. He can outbox him to a unanimous decision if he doesn't let Johnson goad him into going toe to toe, and with BHop moving up and Tarver about to get his butt kicked by Dawson again, Roy will be right back in the top 5 in the division unquestionably.

I sort of feel this way as well... it's hard to call a fighter shot who you just watched put hands together like Roy just did.

When comparing this Roy to the prime version of himself.. he does look shot.. but try comparing most of the other fighters out their to prime roy... they almost all look shot compared to that...

Well bottom line Roy can beat any1 at almost any age who is slow on their feet. His hands are too fast and he can see everything coming. Calzaghe was slick awkward and comes from different angles. Same reason he gave Bernard trouble.

I thought Roy cudda did more that night against Joe tho. I was there and he looked lost. Like he wasn't there mentally...he wasn't throwing anything.

He looked somewat like old Roy against Sheika tho.
