  • Roy Jones Jr Tribute/Retirement thread

Roy we all love you, thanks for the memories, but please stop embarrassing yourself. The p4p king, ex-heavyweight champion, Olympic Champion, one of the baddest mofos ever, is now show boating in front of retired fighters, covering his face protecting his life, and scared to get hit. Let it go Roy, you are passed it! Go out with this win, no need to continue fighting these types of fighters just to feel good about yourself, or no need to fight a world class fighter and just stand there with your hands up in fear of getting hit. Let it go Roy!!! Thanks for every thing! Most of us fans have your career dvd set, every time we get a Roy craving we'll just put our disks in the dvd player! Feel free to add your roy jones jr highlights

This is the 5th round in the 3rd Tarver fight, probably the last good round roy ever had against an elite fighter, after this round he went into turtle shell status

The fans were happy last night, I saw alot of smiles in the crowd. I had fun watching Roy throw his flashy combos aswell.

The bottomline is, if he wants to fight fighters that be can beat for fun and for his fans. I have no problem with that. So far he hasn't signed on to fight Dawson or Calzaghe etc.

You know why I'm getting tired of these kind of threads? No offense to the thread starter, i'm not trying to be an ass....

but we keep stating the obvious, of course he should retire. of course hes past his prime, we all know that.

but saying it a million times, isn't going to make him retire. He will make that decision when he wants to. It is what it is, you don't want to watch it anymore, don't watch it.

RJ is my favorite active fighter. I'll miss him when he does hang 'em up.
In his prime, he threw flurries of just left hooks that were so fast, it looked like a cartoon character throwing shots! Only his was for real! And think of this...how many other great fighters got to where they are in the all time pecking order without hardly ever using their jab?
            Great fighter.

              Great fighter.
That’s right no fundamentals at all, and the word “great” is probably not a high enough explanation of his athletic abilities. I could just imagine how large of a sand glass will be required to time how long it will be before anything like this in boxing is repeated.
That being said, I hope he retires before he gets hurt.

I am a fan of Roy myself, I think he has a great personality, great respect towards other fighter... and also, of course great skills in his prime. I just kinda feel sorry for him because he has taken that one fight too many and hasn't been the same since Tarver II... I remember when watching the Calzaghe fight and wanting Calzaghe to win, and feeling sorry for Jones because it looked like he felt embarrassed... and everyone could tell he isn't even a fraction of the fighter he used to be.

After that fight, I still knew and admitted that prime vs prime Roy would have won... but Roy still got my respect for holding his own and having the heart to carry on through that nasty cut, I felt bad for him after the loss obviously because you could tell he didn't have it anymore but he still gained more respect from me for trying.

He has been a great fighter and has given a lot of fans loads of joy, that is what we should all remember him by... not the fact that he took that one fight too many.

it hard to believe he lost that fight after watchin' that round again.......Roy has a certain affect on my generation of boxing fans.......we love the man simple and plain.....as he walked to ring last night and recieved that great ovation from his hometown crowd.......it gave me the chills........for a second or two I was caught in the moment and I to felt like Roy's biggest fans.......I'm not a big Roy fan but thats the affect I was sayin' that Roy has on my generation........I still believe he has to retire sooner than later but its hard not to wanna see Roy ever fight again!

This is the time for him to go out. He's basically just a journeyman if he continues at this point, and he's got too good a legacy to resign himself to that. I hope he changes his mind and retires now, but I'll always rep him.
