    What Was Roy Jones Thinking??

First of all, I am far from a hater when it comes to mma. Look at my sig. I like mma just as much as boxing, and I train in mma, not boxing. But what was Roy Jones thinking with his booking of these mma fighters?? Sure, Monson and Nelson are top 25 guys at HW, but still. He booked ALL ground fighters. Why not get some Muay Thai guys and kickboxers?? So that the boxing fan can see some good striking involving knees, elbows and kicks?? Every fight (other than the Din Thomas fight which ended by brutal KO) is two grapplers or wrestlers.

Even for a hardcore mma fan, that stuff is garbage. Elite level Brasilian Jiu Jitsu artists are fun to watch, because they break limbs and choke people out and make it look effortless. But fat slobs that roll around and go to decisions is the thing I hate most about mma, and Roy Jones booked an entire cast of those mma fighters. That's like booking a boxing card with an entire cast of boxers who circle and run the entire time. It's brutal. His fight better be a highlight reel KO.

I train in Muay Thai. Of course hands are a part of that, but it's not traditional boxing, and when it comes to pure hands a technical boxer would make me look like a fool in a boxing contest. If knees, kicks and elbows were allowed, that's a different story.

I'm just totally against having Boxing and MMA in the same card. Don't get me wrong, I love MMA, but I consider them two completely different sports. It's like having a baseball/cricket doubleheader. I actually enjoy the ground aspect of an MMA fight to be honest. BJJ can be real fun to watch, but it's painfully boring when they match-up two defensive BJJ players.

Golden Boy - The same way MT guys throw you off with the clinch, knees and leg kicks, I hate fighting good boxers because their defense, angles and footwork **** up my timing big time. That's why I love both arts.

GOG - I think it was say Fedor vs a top notch guy, and Winky vs Williams or something on the same card, that would be good. Both are combat sports. But you have to put strikers on the card because boxing fans like striking. If it's a Damian Maia, Jacare or something when it comes to BJJ, that's fine. But when it's two out of shape wrestler-grapplers or defensive BJJ guys like you said, it's horrible. I love BJJ, train in it, and Rickson Gracie is a hero to me. But, in terms of marketing, if I was a boxer putting on a card with me headlining it, I would make sure I got more strikers than grapplers, where as Roy had 0 strikers (even Din Thomas is a grappler first)

From a business standpoint, I agree with you, Strikers = More Viewers. People like you and me are a minority, though. Few of us appreciate both boxing and BJJ/Grappling.

Yeah good point. Most mma fans are just as ****** when it comes to boxing as boxing fans are towards mma. It's sad really. I love all combat sports, mma, boxing, K-1.
