    just my opinion but.......

in response to the "who's gonna replace delahoya in ppv thread"

i was gonna post this there but i changed my mind and made it a thread

i dont think it will happen again, i hate to say this cuz it pisses me off but boxing lost popularity, it aint what it use to be. and now with mma and ufc making a name for themselves, people out there are believing that boxing is not as good as them. its up to the big name fighters to pass the tourch like oscar did to floyd. floyd has not passed that tourch yet, if he would fight people like cotto, margarito(before the wrapp ****), mosley etc. and one of them win, they become famous and become a draw. then they can pass the tourch to the next guy. if they lose, the tourch wont be passed but the fighter will gain popularity by fighting a big name in ppv. then they can continue on and try to make a name for themselves.

here's some fighter that can take oscar's place now:

pacman- he basically took the place of oscar by default since floyd retired.
floyd vs pac is the biggest ppv that can be made at this point.

floyd- he'll be back to fight pac and make that big ppv fight. only question remains if he will then retire instead of taking on cotto, mosley and passing the tourch to them

cotto- if floyd and/or pac fight him, it would be the second biggest ppv that can be made since cotto has his own fanbase.

hatton- he messed his opportunity by losing to floyd so he needs to beat pacman to have a chance

mosley- if floyd fights him in july but his age is a problem.

here's some guys that can possibly replace oscar in the future if they keep on winning:

victor ortiz- as long as he keeps on winning, he got hbo on his side. he's young, talented, has the looks(no ****). i think he has the chance to be the next golden boy.

juanma lopez- as long as he keeps on wining, he got hbo on his side. young talented, he has the support from trinidad and the rest of the puerto rican community.

chad dawson- young, talented, if he keeps on wining and get fights with calzaghe, hopkins, pavlik etc. you never know.

paul williams- same as dawson, and if he can come back to ww and fight guys like cotto, mosley, floyd etc. he can become a name.

im sure there's alot more names im missing out on so feel free to add on.

p.s. to the promoters: stop bull****in and make the fights happen and our sport will be fine.

MMA is a complete joke though, how many people do you think go "ill try mma out, ill get a ppv", watch 3 hours of man loving on the floor and think "man i didn't order gay **** im not watching that **** again"

People are realising MMA is ****, Boxings historical flagship is the H/W division, If Haye and arreola can do the business they will bring the interest back

MMA/UFC doesn't have any stars! Ask yourself this would any name UFC fighter sell a PPV by himself without the UFC name? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Fedor the supposed #1 fighter in MMA can't even break a 100K PPV's.

DLH is done but the same was said when Tyson,Ali and Leonard retired. Boxing is dead they said there is no new starts to carry the sport. Boxing will always come up with new stars it always does! Plenty of possible stars out there it's just gonna take some time. Just wait till a few good heavies arrive on the scene then Boxing once again will re-gain it's luster

i agree with everything you wrote but you have to agree that since ufc came in the picture boxing lost fans. they dont sell more ppv's but they have a national televised channel(****e) behind them, boxing dont. espn doesnt show named fighters on fnf, they aint even on every friday every other sport bumps them out. and who out there sells good ppv's these days.
pac vs hatton wont get 1 million ppvs unless the brits make it happen somehow. i agree the future is great for boxing all we need is for the named fighters to fight and people will be interested.

EVERY sport has it's downtime. MMA is the new cool thing on the block. Boxing has history, heritage, legends, historic showdowns and rematches and in some lucky instances, and some not so, trilogies. MMA is here and I think will be for a while. Boxing doesn't have to co-exist with them or feel threatened by them because MMA isn't what's wrong with the decline of boxing. The promotors, sanctioning bodies, ODLH, etc. is what's killing boxing. Boxing is fine and will continue to be as long as the higher ups in charge realize, why pay for brutality when you can get it free on a local channel?

Your first paragraph is completely false. The second one I agree with.
MMA is gaining steam, people will the stomach to watch it are intrigued by something that is so unusual. To short attention spanned WWE crowds who cant stand boxing, MMA is like Pro Wrestling but for real.
Boxing isnt going anywhere, though. Its popularity isnt what it used to be in America, but at some point we will get another HW champion, this recession wont hurt are chances of that, and boxing will get talk again.
