What Do You Guys Think Happened With Floyd...

regarding Oscar? I mean everyone always says that Floyd is a cherry picker that only cares about money but when he retired, he left the Oscar fight on the table. It was a rematch that pretty much everyone thought Floyd would win and it wouldve been for huge money but Floyd walked away. He couldve easily had fought Oscar again and nearly every one of his critics were predicting that he would fight Oscar again for the easy fight and big pay day but he didnt. No one ever talks about that. Now that he's coming back its reported that he has said that he wants nothing to do with an Oscar fight.

What do you guys think that is about? Im talking about now and back then. Do you think Floyd just didnt want to fight Oscar again? Was he scared? Did Oscar try to **** him in the negotiations and Floyd didnt like it? Was he just sick of boxing at that point and it had nothing to do with Oscar? Either way he left a huge lump some of money and this is a guy who everyone says only cares about money. What about now? Do you think his comments has to do with Oscar as a boxer, promoter, or both? Oscar has some fighters but Floyd doesnt really have to deal with Oscar directly. Do you think Floyd's recent comments had to do with Oscar being destroyed by Pac so its not a big fight or had more to do with him just downright hating Oscar right now for some reason. Maybe even on the same level he hates Arum.

When they were in negotiations, Oscar was kind of in the middle of Floyd and his dad. He made alot of comments about them and he made alot of negative comments about Floyd's boxing career. Despite losing the 1st fight, he seemed like he was going to get Nacho to train him for the 2nd fight instead of Sr. so could this have had something to do with Floyd pulling out? All in all just what are your pure thoughts about the situation or do you just think that its nothing and Floyd was just through with boxing back then and Oscar sucks now so there is no point of a fight.

That is when you know his love for the sport died...when you turn down a DLH rematch, no boxer would do such a thing, regardless of all the crap they'll give em

That's easy. De La Hoya wanted the vast majority of the money involved for the rematch. Close to the same terms for the first fight. Floyd held his position in terms of what he wanted. He felt that he was a much bigger star when they were negotiating for the second time [and he was] and he won the first fight. Putting that into consideration, Floyd has a legitimate beef over the money being offered.

De La Hoya was going to make more off the rematch than he did off the first fight and Mayweather [and I'm sure his ego] was not going to allow a guy he already beat, dictate the financial terms. He stood to make 20 million but Oscar was going to make between 40 to 50 million. Unlike Pacquiao, Mayweather just walked away from the table and never looked back and I think that shows something.

Shane Mosley did the same thing. Oscar offered him peanuts many years ago for a trilogy fight. Mosley, because he beat Oscar twice, walked away and actually took the Winky Wright fight for far less money.

It's the principle of the whole thing.

ODLH, as of now, ruins boxing. He has done great things for the sport and in his respective career, but the last few years, he just needs to stay in his office and the hell out of the ring. People on these boards wanna call Mayweather a cherry picker?!?!? There isn't a bigger cherry picker in the WORLD than ODLH late in his career. Not only does he do this, but he also demands money that is usually reserved for the champ. Look at the Pacman fight? Are you kidding me he needed 70% ?? I'm just sick of him and he ruined his image and legacy to an extent due to his greed here in the end.

Oscar got greedy and Floyd refused to indulge him is basically the extent of it.

Oscar was trying to screw him over in the rematch negotiations. Floyd didn't like it and retired before the Margarito/Cotto match took place. He felt the pressure and retired.

He left the De La Hoya rematch due to money, principle, and undesirable reasons I think. De La Hoya was offering him **** % of the PPV buys, something like 25% which he got before and Floyd said no because he won the first time and deserved more understandably (Oscar probably was too stubborn to alter), so after De La Hoya was being so unfair in negotiations Floyd abandoned the rematch... and then probably thought through whether to fight on or not. He probably thought to himself "I got enough money, so there is no need to fight" and "I am kinda bored with the sport, I want a break if not a permanent retirement", so he announced retirement about June/July time after giving it serious thought (not that it has seemed to last long).

So that is a mixture of different stories I have read/heard to date... put together in one response, it wasn't in fear of losing a rematch I don't think, it was just he didn't have the heart to continue, had plenty of money... and was pissed that he was being ****d by De La Hoya in negotiations. This isn't nuthugging or anything I am just stating my opinion and what I have heard.
