There's no doubt fighters were much tougher in those days. They had to be, gloves were less padded, rules were more leaniant and refs would allow a lot more things to go on in the ring they don't allow now.

Imagine what it would have been like to fight in Jack Johnson's time? Now that guy was tough...

        That was quite a shot.

No wonder Benitez can't do anything for himself right now, it's really sad to see him in person.

still...its hard to believe he could have taken that kind of punishment and those 3 knockdowns and still be able to win the fight, but I guess anything's possible.
I bet you arent one of those who think Pacquiao lost both fights vs JMM

I had JMM winning the second fight closely, but the 1st one...eh. Im actually stuck on one round that decides the fight, its the 9th or something. so based on how I score that round, I could have had a Pacquiao win, Draw, or Marquez win.
and imo, the punishment that Benitez took in those knockdowns was even worse than the punishment Marquez took in the 1st round. the fact that he fell face first through the ropes was probebly pretty scary if you were watching the fight live.

go to 2:17, Benitez is in the black trunks, Bruce Curry is in the white.

and yea...I dont think Benitez was prime until he hit 154lbs.
Lol, getting up from that second knockdown, no ref would allow that to continue today the way in fell through the ropes. I had a fight on dvd, classic b&w fight where the guy was falling and the ref held him up to get punched more.

Whoa. I've never seen that before. What a shot. Benitez falling face first. Unbelieveable that the fight was allowed to continue. I doubt that even Steve Smoger would have allowed it to continue after the second KD.

It doesnt matter which one was worse, its still a 10-6 round and Benitez could have turned it around.
