Kevin Iole Is An Idiot: Trashes Juan Carlos Gomez

This is an excerpt from his article that is currently posted over on Yahoo. I don't know what the hell this guys problem is but he rips Juan Carlos Gomez as being a pathetic opponent for Vitali. He goes way too far and is so far off base in his observations that I would say it is a pretty unprofessional story.

    1. He rips JCG for never having beaten anyone and then mentions McCall and Sam without making mention of Virchis. Why not mention the guy who damn near beat Chagaev, and it one of the heavier handed fighters in the sport? My guess is that Iole doesn't know who Virchis is, nor has he ever seen him fight.

    2. He rips the WBC for giving him a totally undeserved shot. What a ****ing a**hole this Iole guy is. First off Gomez won two separate eliminator bouts and is one of the most deserving heavyweight challengers of the past few years. David Haye certainly has not gone through two fighters like McCall and Virchis for his shot at the IBF/WBO titles.

He goes on to later say that the Haye bout is excusable cause it's "new faces with different styles"

So far as I can tell Gomez is both a new face and a new style.

If they met 100 times, Klitschko would win 99 of them. But the Klitschkos have so far lapped the field that there’s the very distinct possibility that Dr. Ironfist expects little more than a light workout from Gomez.

Gomez is left-handed, which in and of itself will pose a problem for Klitschko. And he’s a clever boxer. Klitschko will probably clobber him early and the ESPN broadcast that begins at 5 p.m. ET might be off the air by 5:15.

However, if Klitschko is not as interested as he needs to be and is not in the kind of shape he should be, Gomez could steal an ugly decision – and the title belt.

Gomez doesn’t even deserve to be in a title bout, truth be told. He doesn’t have one significant victory on his heavyweight résumé, which includes 44 wins, one loss and a no-contest in 46 professional bouts.

Would it be his 2007 triumph over then-42-year-old Oliver McCall which truly qualified him for this title shot? Doubtful.

His 2003 victory over Sinan Samil Sam? Yawn.

It’s a stunner, I know, that the WBC would give a totally undeserving, unqualified opponent a chance at the title, but then the folks who took the bonuses at AIG come off as more ethical and more likeable than the people who run the WBC.

chagaev isn't looking so impressive now since an old ass completely shot ass version of holyfield beat valuev but got clearly robbed out of a decision win. I guess people should show more respect toward Sultan Ibragimov now since he pretty much dominated a shot version of holyfield.

But that same version of Holyfield took valuev to school. Actually Sultan fought a less shot version of Holyfield compared to Valuev who had ibragimovs left overs.

I gotta agree, this is just pure ignorance on his part. He should be ashamed for publishing this horseh*t.

It's odd that he would completely forget to mention Vladimir Virchis who was at that time ranked in the top 10 by Ring Magazine.

Gomez is as legit a challenger as any in today's heavyweight division.

JC Gomez is underrated, he's probably the fourth or fifth best heavyweight in the world. He's much quicker and better skilled than Sam Peter, who used to be an Iole favorite.

This will be a competitive fight, much more so than Wlad vs. Haye. Wait and see.

Like him or not the fact is that Gomez did in fact earn this title shot by beating solid ranked opposition. I don't see how Iole can fail to recognize that.

Most of the articles I've read have at least acknowledged Gomez is a worthy challenger and highly skilled opponent. I personally think McCall would be a handful for anybody in the division even now. I'm by no means saying he'd beat Klitschko or whatever, but McCall is not a man who gets blown away by anybody. The Virchis win was indeed a good win, with people actually favouring him to beat Gomez. I made a little bit of money on that fight, and I tell you what, I hope to make a damn sight more money on this one.
