Khan is at least a year away from being ready to go in with an elite Lightweight; but unfortunately for him, Warren still says he wants to put him in a world title fight by the end of '09, which shows that Warren has absolutely no interest in Khan's long term career, and his only interest is Warren's own short term earnings. Hopefully Roach will overrule him.

Khan needs to fight a couple of solid but non-elite fighters who can test him, such as David or Julio Diaz; then rematch Prescott; then fight an elite contender; and if he can pass those tests, he will then and only then be ready to fight for a world title.

I think he intends to arrange for a lame bout against questionable comp for a vacant title.. He'd ultimately achieve the world title and Khan wouldn't have to risk it against elite. Except (a) he's nowhere near ready for Campbell, and yet Warren was trying to line that fight up next; (b) Warren is reportedly trying to line up a JMM-Khan fight for Dec '09, which is much too early for Khan, he would be destroyed if he fought JMM that early, IMO; and (c) if he does rely on getting a paper title against a nobody due to Marquez vacating, as you predict, he'd get no credibility for it, and he wouldn't be able to hold onto the belt for long if he won it that way unless the sanctioning body protected him, which would damage his credibility still further. That would be bad for his long term career and for his long term earnings potential.

If he were brought on properly, facing gradually improving competition that can test him, and a variety of styles, then I believe he has enough talent to get to the top (as in lineal title) in 18 months to 2 years time - and certainly he needs at least another year, IMO; and that's the way a good promoter would be trying to bring him on.

A world title is a world title. As long as he fights somebody in the lightweight top 10 for it, then I don't see the problem. However I want to see him fight Murray, or D.Diaz first.

Khan is one of the biggest names and money makers at lightweight, I'm sure plenty of people will love to fight him.

it has always been the case that Khan was only going to be a paper champion so he can say silly things like look im a world champion i proved all the critics wrong, in my eyes he didnt he beat Barrera, if he gets the WBO we may well see him up against Barrera because he still wants his title, anyway this Nate Campbell fight was never gona happen, some bum will appear at the number two spot who we have never heard of and will get a shot with khan if its up to Warren then when he wins he will say im gona step up a weight coz iv beaten the best at lightweight so im gona win a title at LW and fight some more bums.
