Khan vs. Campbell Deal Was in Place, Says Warren

According to promoter Frank Warren, there was a verbal deal in place for Amir Khan to fight then WBO/IBF/WBA lightweight champion Nate Campbell. To make the fight happen, Campbell would have needed to beat Ali Funeka on February 14 and Khan would have needed win his March 14 bout with Marco Antonio Barrera. Both fighters came through and won their bouts, but the deal went out the window when Campbell failed to make weight for his fight with Funeka. [details]

Wow, Warren putting him in with the big boys already. Anyways Campbell failing to make weight is a blessing for Khan.

Oh so it's Nate Campbell's fault that Kahn won't be going near an elite fighter for the foreseeable future? you can only laugh at this sorry excuse for a human being.

lol at those who believe that this fight would have been made.

Luckily for Khan, he's nowhere near ready for Campbell yet. Warren's a prick.

Khan is at least a year away from being ready to go in with an elite Lightweight; but unfortunately for him, Warren still says he wants to put him in a world title fight by the end of '09, which shows that Warren has absolutely no interest in Khan's long term career, and his only interest is Warren's own short term earnings. Hopefully Roach will overrule him.

Khan needs to fight a couple of solid but non-elite fighters who can test him, such as David or Julio Diaz; then rematch Prescott; then fight an elite contender; and if he can pass those tests, he will then and only then be ready to fight for a world title.
