There's a video of him training for the Mosley fight and he was doing that, he wasn't doing chin push ups , he was just putting all his weight on his chin, it's very hard to do, Mosley still cracked it though.
**** those green doughnut things.. This is why Margs has/had a GREAT chin...

Yea, I incorporate neckwork into my workouts so I do have some strength in that area and there is no way I could even do 1 chin "push up". It has to just be a hold which is still hard.Comment

The first pic looks like he might be trying to strengthen his jaw. I'm not sure it's even possible to literally strengthen your chin. In the second pic it looks like this exercise focuses on the neck. KO's generally come from the snapping on the neck so that's why you see fighters doing a lot of neckwork.
If you put all that weight on your chin, the only thing that could do is strengthen your jaw muscles. He is probably keeping his hands off the floor and angling himself that way to get more direct weight on the chin. Try what he is doing and do the pushup part by opening your mouth. This should put tremendous stress on the jaw line, with enough sets you could take a hell of a punch without getting your jaw broken. It is really, really, really hard to fracture someone's chin bone while fairly easy to break someone's jaw.
I'm sure this exercise is for the muscles surrounding the joints of the jaw.Comment

EDIT: I went back and tried it again since I missed the part about having his mouth open (I didn't realize this from the pic either). Your right, it does work the jaw but the neck more so. Even with your mouth closed it does require some jaw stability.Last edited by βetamax; 03-18-2009, 11:29 AM.Comment
