    sven ottke, how good was he?

    He rebutted his critics, which had complained that he had started too late, when he became German Champion at the tender age of 18 at Middleweight. Ten further titles would follow. He took part in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games . He became European Champion in 1991 and 1996, and came third in 1993.

    Ottke held amateur wins over Antonio Tarver, Chris Byrd, Michael Moorer, Zsolt Erdei and Juan Carlos Gomez.

    Amateur Record: 256-47-5
    East Germany Middleweight Champion 1985-1989
    German National Middleweight Champion (1990-1991, 1995-1996)
    German National Light Heavyweight Champion (1992-1993)
    Three time Olympian

    As a pro he has beaten Glen Johnson, Anthony Mundine, Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell and Robin Reid.

    He retired 34-0.

    now i know a lot of his fights should have gone the other way but is he overlooked on this forum because of his lack of kos? i dont know... to me he's underrated.

        His resume is very similar to Calzaghe minus the wins against the old men at the end. That says more about Calzaghe then Otke though. No one here claims Otke to be an ATG.

          Ottke is similar to Mayweather, talented defensive fighter who wouldn't leave his hometown judges and referees.

          He ducked Calzaghe, and got a gift decision against Reid. Floyd ducked Mosley, Tszyu, Cotto and a few others, and got a gift decision against Castillo.

          Ottke = Mayweather.

              Ottke was a good fight, he should have lost a few times though.
