Just watched Segura vs Canchila II again...

What a WAR! While Marquez vs Diaz may have been better overall, you're not likely to see any more brutality over four consecutive rounds than Segura vs Canchila II. It was like a mini Hagler vs Hearns. Yeah, Canchilla kept getting dropped but he was landing some hellacious shots himself, Giovanni just has a better chin. Segura didn't walk away unscathed, he took his licks and it showed in the way he carried himself immediately after the fight; he was spent.

As for the controversy after the fight, that dumbass ref didn't hear the bell. Giovanni did what he was supposed to do, continue fighting until the referee broke them. Canchila didn't really take any more significant shots after the bell, the shot that really hurt him landed as the bell rang. When the ref realized that the round was over he broke the fighters. I think Canchila's corner threw in the towel as Canchila sat in his corner. It looked like they called the fight off. There was a bit of confusion there, but for all intents and purposes, that fight was OVER.

It was a beatdown pretty much from start to finish.

And they rang the bell because Canchilla's corner threw in the towel I think. They stopped the fight, but the ref didn't see them so they rang the bell to get him off it.

Oh by the way, Segura used plaster this time around just like Margarito and that's why he had the advantage.

Just watched it again, the bell rang as time ran out, at the end of the round. The referee didn't hear it and didn't give the fighters any indication that the fight was over, so they continued to fight. I don't even think the ref knew the round was over the second time the bell rang. He seen Canchila's corner coming in to save thier fighter and waved it off. Canchila's corner may have only come in because it was the end of the round and not because they were quiting, I don't know, but when the referee waved it off there was NO protest from Canchila's corner. They accepted the call and the fight was over.

I thought it was pretty one sided honestly, Canchilla had his moments but got beat up for the most part.

It was a one-sided fight, but still very exciting. The Mexican crowd and the spanish commentators on azteca made it more entertaining than if it had been on HBO.

I think Jim Lampley would have busted a couple of nuts during those four rounds.
