So, the RJJ at heavyweight who beat Ruiz...

... who else in the division, at the time, would he have beaten if he would've stuck around to defend his title?

Or how about this - who could that version of Roy beat in HW right now? I would say he'd dance rings around Valuev and Chagaev (whilst actually punching and landing, unlike Holyfield), but probably wouldn't be able to take too many rounds against the Klitschkos. A fight against Haye would be interesting, though. Arreola, on the other hand, would get soundly UD'ed by the same Roy who beat Ruiz. All this is pre-Tarver speculation, btw.

    So discuss.

That wouldn't be such a bad match, actually. Maybe it'd be a different fight at HW, as opposed to LHW all those years ago. I'd still pick Roy to UD his fat ass, though.

the 2003 model of Roy would have alot more UD wins on his record over some of the present crop of heavyweights I can say the with confidence.....Too bad though that the Tyson fight never happened, or the Lewis fight that could have happened too. If Roy fought them and got ko'd it wouldn't really have diminished his legacy because everyone would have dismissed the loses saying that he wasn't a real heavyweight anyway.

He coulda taken Byrd or Holy. Had he fought Tyson then as he wanted to, he coulda beaten him too. The top guys now are just too big for him. He would eventually got hit wit sumthin big and stopped by either of the K bros. Valuev he might beat tho. He'd whoop Peter's fat ass.

i really don't think he could beat samuel peter he could catch him easy because he's strong but he's quicker than the average HW.

I don't agree at all. I think it would only have been a matter of time before he got caught with a big shot and goodnight. The Ruiz fight was an educated decision. Ruiz was a lame duck who has twice been defeated by former middleweights. Some fighters are just made for other fighters. He took a calculated gamble. Not to take anything away from Jones, the guy was an exceptional specimen. I'd have backed him to win some more fights at heavyweight, but he would have been flattened by a Klitschko or a Lewis, or even another heavyweight.
