Barrera/Khan - Warren Attempts To Make it a WBO Eliminator

Promoter Frank Warren has made a request to the WBO to sanction this Saturday's lightweight bout between Amir Khan and Marco Antonio Barrera as a mandatory eliminator for a title shot. The fight takes place at the MEN Arena in Manchester. Barrera is ranked at number 1 and Khan is ranked at 10. Because they are the two highest ranked available lightweights, Warren says the sanctioning body should make the fight a final eliminator. [details]

A bith move, but smart. Either figher is a joke to be the champ though actually. Might even give a reason for Manny to go back down and take an easy lineal champ belt at 135!

Khan is nowhere near ready for a world title fight. Warren is cynical, he puts his own pocket above the long term welfare of his fighters. If Khan can beat Barrera he needs 2-3 fights against fringe contenders, and then an elimination fight. Roach hasn't had nearly enough time yet to turn him from the fighter Prescott beat into a truly world class fighter. And his opposition pre-Prescott was pathetic, and ***an wasn't much better. Warren knows how to market fighters but not how to make matches a prospect can learn from, that will make them into better fighters. It's very sad.

There has been, and will be worse champions than Amir Khan. Remember he has only had 20 fights. Barrera was fighting guys with 6-9 records for his 20th fight. Barrera is the right step up. I doubt Amir Khan will be facing any soft opposition now he is tied to Sky. They will demand big fights.

Khan is, what?, 4 years into his pro career now?

Barrera over the same time frame had won and defended the Mexican title, won a world title eliminator and beat a former world champion... And he hadn't been KTFO in one round either
