Kostya Tszyu - Amateur Legend (Video)

Just an offshoot of the thread asking why Floyd always showed so much respect to King Kostya, Roy Jones as well. Maybe this is why?

Tszyu was an ATG am-fighter. He was one of the best back in the day when I found AM-boxing intersting. Those days are long gone.

Right and right. amateur boxing has regressed to the point where having an extensive amateur career is almost worthless.

Why someone wouldn't know why Tszyu got respect is not very schooled in boxing.

Forreal. Every now and then Kostya would put his boxing skills on display as a pro - like in the Tackie fight - but, for the most part, his strength allowed him to overpower foes. People forget how well-schooled he was.

the filipino guy could have still kept going.

Yeah I agree, I think like most ko artists he realised when he hits guys that they go over, and neglected the technical side of his game as he got older. The tackie fight was a reminder later in his career, shame he had a lot of injury problems in his early 30's probably cost him a lot of big fights
