I remember reading **** from some of his fans that Margarito is overrated, a bum, etc.

He fought the very best in CLOTTEY, PW, MOSLEY, COTTO and YET GOT NO RESPECT.

NOW that Cotto is fighting Clottey(a guy Margarito beat), all of a sudden the mood changes with Cotto tries to fight the best, which in a way is true BUT it is praised godlike unlike what happened with Margs. This is the pre cheat btw.


Remember BOTH Clottey AND Cotto have losses to Margarito.

1) Tito doesn't get suspended for extra gauze and could fight again.

2) Mosley tested postive for PED's and still gets to fight again.

3) Marga-cheato gets caught with a foreign device in both gloves and gets suspended for a year and maybe more..

It's bull**** I agree. But there is one difference. That's that Cotto has been in a situation where he can choose whoever he wants. Tony was never in the drivers seat like Cotto has been. Tony HAD to fight those guys to work his way up. Cotto is a pretty big draw, he can call his own shots.

So whereas Tony more or less had to fight most of those guys (except Williams, major props to him for that), Cotto was in a position where he wasn't chasing that stardom, it kind of came with how he was brought up in Top Rank.

Kind of like Oscar(to a much lesser degree of course). In my opinion, Oscar should get even more credit than most for fighting the best because he REALLY never had to. Oscar vs. anyone makes a ****load of money. But he chose to go after the best, which is why I have so much respect for DLH and can begrudge him the Pac debacle.

Tony came up the hard way and HAD to fight all comers.

Cotto came up as the privileged prospect and is an established draw. He could have picked and chose who he fought and HBO still probably would have been all over him.

Still, that's me just playing devils advocate.
