Miguel Cotto doesn't normally call out opponents, but the unbeaten WBA welterweight champion issued a direct challenge to WBC titleholder Floyd Mayweather earlier this week. "I have no problem facing the other champions from the same division," stated Cotto, "but they want to remain as champions. I am open to facing any opponent. When [Mayweather] wants and decides to fight, he knows that Miguel Cotto is here....stop making excuses."

And just what does Miguel Cotto think of the handpicking, sidestepping and excuse-making antics of Mayweather? "That's the thing he does for his entire career. He run from the really good boxer kind, he choose the others. I don't know how the people who know about boxing put him in the first place in the pound-for-pound champion."

Cotto says he sees vulnerablilities in Mayweather which he knows how to exploit. "He's quick. He's fast. But when you put pressure on him he closes his mind."

im glad this fight was made. both fighters are good boxers and they always come to fight. im happy that clottey is finally getting an opportunity to unify the titles. also give alot of respect for stepping up to fight clottey. it seems that the welterweight division is doing pretty well without you know who.

It was doing worse when he was there, because he never fought anyone in the division who was significant. He was a coward who believed that money made the fighter, not legacy, not great fights, not the heart to take on anyone.

What difference does it make? Floyd still wouldn't fight Cotto because he doesn't bring the kind of money Floyd wants. So instead he fought Ricky Hatton who didn't even call him out.

Hatton did call him out, but the whole thing was talked about well before that happened. It was planned behind the scenes. That simply set the stage.

Mayweather never would have fought Mosley, Cotto, Margarito, or Williams at 147, and they were/are the best in the division this decade. If Floyd didn't fight any of them, he doesn't deserve to be considered the best.
