It was with great surprise that Team Sauerland heard about Universum´s press release regarding the fight between WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev and “champion in recess” Ruslan Chagaev. “Klaus-Peter Kohl´s remarks are untrue,” Sauerland Event General Manager Chris Meyer said. “While requesting so many special permits from the WBA, he must have lost his sense for reality. Universum are responsible for the heavyweight chaos. The WBA´s order was clear: Once Chagaev is fit again, he has to fight Valuev. However, Universum decided to take on Drumond instead. The fight was a farce. Drumond could have never become the official world champion because Valuev is the official champion!” [details]

I've come to dislike the WBA for allowing this nonsense. It's the worst sanctioning organization by far.Comment

Seriously. I hope something like a carbon monoxide leak happens during the fight and both of them get seriously injured and we never have to see either fighter ever again. Sorry, but that's how I really feel.Comment

I remember when Bowe refused to fight Lewis and held a press conference, placing the WBC belt in a trash can. This is the image i have of the WBA belt!! Plus the fact that (As funny as it sounds) Evander Holyfield should be the "Current" WBA Champ?Comment

I don't blame you, man! This is the stuff that makes the HW division suck so badly right now. I don't mind the Klitschko brothers at all and think they make excellent champions (and Haye would too, if he stopped being such a **** and actually fought), but these 2 clowns Chags and Valuev... fuck, part of me hopes they both end up like Gerald McClellan. I'm not even joking around now. I despise them as boxers that much.Comment

The wba belt doesn't count
At this point to me the WBA heavyweight title doesn't even matter. The WBA itself can't even say it has a true champion. And what is even worst is that when we finally get an answer as to who the WBA champion actually is(hopefully), The WBA has stated John Ruiz will fight the champion first. That is awful. Valuev has beaten him twice, and possibly even in his most recent fight. Even though they would more then likely be less then stellar matchups as well, its like can we get James Toney against one of these guys. Hell, I'd rather see Shannon Briggs, unworthy of a title shot, fight one of these guys. Anybody but Ruiz again. Even Chris Aereolla, who may get knocked out by Jameel McCline, why can't he land a fight with one of these two. Evander even got a shot and "lost". Bottom line is somebody in this division outside of Europe, has got to win one of these belts. Problem is, it certainly won't be Juan Carlos Gomez, and it won't be David Haye. The WBA belt doesn't even matter. By the time we may finallly get unification, it will be either Vitali or Vladamir, and I wouldn't be surprised if a fight later one of them retired, and we'd have four vacant belts floating around all over again. As far as the division goes, atleast ESPN picked up the Vitali fight, and six days later the same channel will air what should be a pretty good bout in Sam Peter vs Eddie Chambers.Comment
