    Heayweight division; Why is it.....

So bad and lack luster. No offense to other countries but is it in the heavyweight division American Heavyweights are more entertaining ? Or does it lose popularity because no good Americans are in it?

Basetball football MMA is more promising for a future. There ain't no future in boxing unless you get in with the right people and if you can make a dollar for them. Other than that thousand of fighters are sitting in a sweaty gym right now wishing to get a shot. If we had a commission to drive out all the scum promoters and these division bodies more fighters would have a chance.

**** ethnicity. HW sucks cuz the quality of the fights suck. Even if the top guys are fightin each other, it don't mean much to the fans when the fights are boring as ****.

The hw division lacks excitement because of poor match-making. There's alot of skilled fighters and the talent level is decent but the promoters frequently shelter their fighters because they figure holding on to an alphabet title is a "cash cow" or "meal ticket." Here are some of the recent high profile hw bouts that have been poorly matched:

          Valuev-Holyfield
          Wlad-Rahman
          Chagaev-Drummond
          Valuev-Ruiz II
          Wlad-Brewster
          Wlad-Austin
          Wlad-Ibragimov
          Chagaev-Skelton
          Dimitrenko-Krasniqi
          Povetkin-Sykes

There's a lot of exciting young European heavyweights like Boytsov, Haye, Dimitrenko, Kretschmann, Pala, etc.

But many in the American media, such as Atlas, Kellerman, Raskin etc. tend to be negative about any heavyweights who are not American, especially mainland Europeans, and so create a negative attitude toward the heavyweight division.

The reason the Haye-Wlad fight would not be highly lucrative is hardly anyone in the US has ever heard of David Haye - the American media has ignored him..

There's a few reasons, although it's hard to pinpoint the main one. Some people say there's not as many people taking up the sport, therefore the bigger guys are in football and other sports. I personally think that's probably a half-truth to cover up the lack of good American heavyweights. One definite problem in the division is lack of dedication. Most heavyweights are not in good condition and are nowhere near their optimum weight level.

Even though most of the current heavyweights are not that good, if they were all dedicated and in good condition, they would be much, much better than what they are, and would be in exciting fights. Some of them just don't have the hunger anymore. Look at David Tua, 10 years ago he would have made for some exciting fights. But now he'd rather do laps around his fridge and collect easy money fighting journeymen. Shannon Briggs is another fighter who could at least be an exciting fighter, if it wasn't for the fact he'd rather look like a bodybuilder and gas after 2 rounds.

Hopefully the Gomez vs Klitschko fight can show fans of the lighter weight classes that some of the bigger guys can be talented as well as put on a good show. Regardless of what people say, the heavyweight division is still boxing's showcase division. Maybe it's just a case of bad luck that there's been very few good heavyweights coming through. Good things tend to come in bunches. Maybe we'll see a Holyfield, Lennox, Ike etc coming though at some stage again. They could battle it out with some good Eastern Europeans and the division would be interesting again.

I'm sorry but I gotta bring ethnicity in to this conversation. European boxing is just so damn boring, that together with European Heavyweights who are boring as ****, don't wanna fight each other, have horrible decisions go for them, and have promotion companies that hide them, equals the worst division that I have ever seen in my time as a boxing fan. I ain't racist, I'm part Euro. But, I know when **** stinks, and the heavyweight division is plain garbage. Needs all new champs.
