How will Ortiz due in the WW Division? (His jrWW days are numbered)

For Ortiz's biggest fight and test of his career to date he came in at 155lbs come fight time. So he probably trained as well as he could've. I don't think he will be at jrWW for more than another year.

Juan Guzman came into a jrLW fight at 144lbs and he moved up within the year.

Paul Williams came in at 163lbs for a WW fight and moved up to jrMW within the year of that fight.

Cotto came into the Corley fight at around 153. Within a year and a half he was still full WW. In the tail end of his jrWW career he was digressing and was becoming a plodder towards the end of his jrWW career, not to mention he became a bit chinny at the end also.

I'm interested in seeing how his power carries over. Would love to see him against Berto. 2 young guys with quick hands.

Give him a year and I think he would beat Berto. He will eventually have to move up.

WW is where the money is.

He doesn't seem to have any problems cutting and making weight. He's young. I see him picking up a championship or two before he moves up to Welter.

Am I the only one that currently see's Berto as the easiest of the WW title holders? Not that he will be an easy fight for anyone but just see him as the most beatable out of 4. Mosley, Clottey, Cotto then Berto.

Either way I think Ortiz's body and natural growth will force him to full WW where traditionally much bigger fights and money has been made.

However, currently at this stage in his career I think he has better matchups at jrWW. Torres, Urango, Ngoudjo........etc good solid fights that would progress his career without putting him into too deep of water.

I'm not saying that he is totally killing himself like Eric Morales or Cotto. But the writing is on the wall. It can't be that easy when in his post fight interview he is talking about Taco Bell....haha.

Taco bell must have paid Vic a good chunk of change for the mention.(it came out of nowhere)

But like Perro said he is young and can make the weight. He is in no rush to WW.

I'm not saying rush, like I said he currently has better matchups at jrWW than at WW. However I just think that within 12-18 months he will be forced to go to WW. But he can have some very good career building fights from now till then. Torres, Urango, Ngoudjo were some examples that I gave.

I think he has 1 or 2 more years before he moves up, but moving up to 147 is inevitable for him, he's a really big guy for 140 and I'm sure he'll start having trouble making weight sooner or later.

I think he'll do fine at 147, he's not the type of fighter who uses his physical strength to muscle his opponents around and his body type looks OK to handle the physical strength of the guys at 147, but I could be wrong, time will tell. It's harder to predict whether the power and speed will carry up with him.

He is pretty young yet so I think he can cut the weight for a while longer while he really builds up his resume. Before he moves up to 147 he should have made a real solid name for himself, atleast winning one belt and hopefully picking up another.

Eventually though he will move to 147 which is a much more highly thought of division.
