Thats funny.
It's funny that there careers are very similar but you give Joe credit and not Hopkins.
Calzaghe cleaned out 168.
Hopkins cleaned out 160. De la Hoya and Trinidad were champions there when he beat them. Hopkins even fought DLH at a catchweight of 156 which was only 2 pounds shy of where DLH was natural at, at that stage in his career. Trinidad was the favourite to beat Hopkins, wasn't a natural welterweight then was he ?
Hopkins defended his middleweight title 20 times and unified the titles.
Calzaghe defended his supermiddleweight title 21 times and unifed the titles.
Both fighters won titles in 2 different weight classes.
Hopkins gets more credit than Joe because of how successful he has been in his 40s.
Beating Tarver( Hopkins was supposed to lose), Wright ( who was another favourite to beat him), close loss to Calzaghe and destroying the middleweight champ Pavlik ( who was supposed to KO Hopkins).
Lets not forgot that no one at the time wanted to fight Wright, and Wright had no complaints with going up 10 pounds, Hopkins had to drop an extra 5 pounds at 42.
Pavlik was looking for a bigger name to add to his resume, and Hopkins came along. Regarding weight the same applies to Pavlik as it did above.
