ARTHUR ABRAHAM: "ME AND PAVLIK IS THE FIGHT THE FANS ARE WAITING FOR!"
By G. Leon
GL: How is everything going in preparation for your March 14 defense against Lajuan Simon? "Everything has been going well, thanks for asking. We did two training camps one in Kienbaum and another one on a small island in the Baltic Sea. We're travelling to Kiel on Monday. Everything is going according to plan."
GL: What do you think of Simon as a fighter? Will he go the distance?
AA: Everybody who gets a world title shot is a good fighter, so I will definitely not underestimate him. He has a good record but he cannot beat me. I have knocked out all my opponents since the first fight with Miranda in September 2006 so I would say there is a good chance it will happen again on March 14. However, you cannot plan a KO. I will take it as it comes.
GL: I'm sure your focused on Simon and March 14, but what fight are you looking to make this year and are you confident it will get done?
AA: As you know, my goal is the fight against Kelly Pavlik. I want to unify the titles and become super-champion. His titles are the only reason why I am still at middleweight. Once I have defeated him, I will finally move up in weight.
GL: Do you think the best possible middleweight fight that can be made is a fight between you and Kelly Pavlik?
AA: Most certainly. A fight between me and Sturm would be great for the German boxing fans but unfortunately he appears to be scared and his management would not let him into the same ring with me. That's a pity. Anyway, a showdown between Pavlik and me is what the boxing fans are waiting for!
GL: What did you think of Kelly Pavlik's recent performance against Marco Antonio Rubio?
AA: It was a good performance by Pavlik not more and not less!
GL: How do you think a fight between you and Kelly Pavlik plays out?
AA: Kelly is a good fighter, but I am better. I will beat him by KO!
GL: Can we expect to see you back in America in 2009?
AA: Definitely!
GL: What are your goals for this year?
AA: Beat Simon, return to the US to beat Pavlik and unify the titles, then move up to super-middleweight.
GL: Closing thoughts?
AA: I want to thank the boxing fans in the US for their great support. I hope to see you again soon!
