Marco Antonio Barrera is being under rated

I'm surprised at just how under rated Marco Antonio Barrera is being as to his chances against Amir Khan.

Marco managed to get to get to a UD loss against a younger JMM now p4p #2 than Diaz just faced, and yet he was TKO'd. He also in 07, managed to be relatively competitive with Pacman despite being TKO'd by him first time around. Two years is awhile ok, but not that long. Marco is still a fit athlete and not that far from still proving his worth at the absolute top level. Has Khan come anywhere near that?

Marco has not slipped to the extent people seem to make out, and I'm seeing a common pattern with guys being drastically written off just because there not title holders, have a few losses, and aren't as good as they once were suddenly = shot. But he still has more than enough to beat an un accomplished, china chinned weak hearted Amir Khan.

Especially given Amir Khan it seems is not really quite agreed upon as a top accomplished elite boxer even by a lot of people.

I believe the weight gain could well suite Barrera, I think he'll keep about the same speed in that division meaning his loss of speed won't be as big a factor at LW. I also think he'll carry his power over well. With his skills and experience he's very likely imo to beat Khan, and KO him late.

Just why Khan is being given quite such a good chance and picked by so many astonishes me given these factors, and just how much he's been criticised on these boards. I think Khan is very talented but only wins this if he really has made massive defensive improvements under agreeably a top trainer in Roach.

His relatively close loss to JMM was his last hurrah. He looked pretty sharp for his age and won 4 rounds on my card (5 if he would have kept his cool and Nady didn't suck as a ref). From what I've heard/seen, he's completely fallen off since.

If you've seen Barrera in his performances since Pacquiao II, then it isn't case.

Barrera does not hold the weight well. He's on verge of shot. He's really damn slow now.

He's a legend but he's way past his prime. It's not overrating him it's just fact.

That's just it, speed is the one thing I think he can get away with not having loads of in this fight, given the styles. He has a fairly solid chin himself, is a much more skilled all round boxer and just has to stick at it tactically, pick off the better shots on a poor defense Khan. He'd break him down, make him even more sloppy to the point later in the fight when everyone gets hit more, he'll have the time to land some hard shots.

Khan having a weak chin in this fight is a nightmare.

All summed up, I'm just surprised at the extent of people saying a Khan win. It's by no means likely imo. I could be wrong as the team are saying great things of Khan in training. But I'm willing to stick some 10k bets on it at least.

Funny thing is, if Barrera was announced to be Gamboa's next opponent instead of Khan's, he wouldn't be shot. People just don't want to give Khan any credit, no matter what the result is.

That's rubbish. Stop being paranoid about Brit fighters being hated on.

I don't under rate Barrera and what he has achieved. But, If you think the Barrera that Khan is fighting is the same Barrera, the Prince and Morales faced in the early 2000's then your mistaken, he is well pasted his best.

I think some people want to believe that Barrera isn't past it so it validates Khan fighting him.

I did not anywhere say that is the same Barrera, and I was very careful to say he is indeed past his best. The question is how far. I'll take a moderately past it ATG, over a un accomplished, poor defence weak chinned hype job any day.

What I'm saying is yet again people are exaggerating just how past it he is.

He hasn't forgotten all of his ring intelligence, lost all his chin, combinations and tactics all of a sudden. He is capable of beating a an un accomplished, in experienced guy whom gets knocked down by jabs.

British fighters are the most hated on throughout this board. They are probably the most victimised set of fighters.
