Barrera: "I am a Much Better Fighter Than Amir Khan"

I dint think it was necessary to state that since its pretty obvious that he is. Hopefully he knocks Kahn out or at least beats him pretty badly.

Sounds like barrera is really up for this one. But, one thing in khans favour is that this will be the biggest and possbily the fastest fighter barrera ha faced in his career. Khans much faster than hamed ever was, i'd say he's faster than pacquaio aswell. But, he has no experience and I have never seen khan stick to a game plan in his whole pro-career for these reason, I think MAB will probs win by late stoppage. Unless khan can keep his head and box smart!Comment

***an is no great shakes and that fight only lasted two rounds, but the point about it is that it was Khan's first fight under Roach, and Khan did stick to the game plan in that fight.
Furthermore, although ***an is no great shakes, he was very durable for a journeyman, prior to facing Khan. He went the distance with an admittedly past his prime Paul Spadafora in 2007 and only lost on a split decision, and had only once been stopped, back in 2003; but only lasted two rounds with Khan.
I really don't think you can go much on the pre-Roach Khan, as he was very badly trained up until they got together, and hadn't been taught the fundamentals of the professional game.
Regarding his chin, he used to walk straight into punches, chin in the air, which gives the punches far more effective power than they have in their own right. It's like what happens when two cars meet in a head-on collision. Even jabs can have a lot of power if you do that - Nigel Benn was knocked cold by a jab once. Khan had never learnt how to roll with punches, or to deflect or block them; he was often off-balance, with the wrong stance; he didn't move his head properly, he didn't keep his chin tucked in; he didn't use his very good jab properly; and he didn't clinch when hurt. He's been sparring intensively with Pac now, and has taken Pac's punches very well according to his camp.
Also, he had done too much weight training before he teamed up with Roach, and had a huge. muscular back and spindly legs. He now has a slender back and much sturdier legs, which will also help his punch resistance, as well as improving his ability to move out of the way of shots with upper body movement.
Chins can improve - Ali was considered to be chinny early in his career, yet he had a great chin later on.Last edited by Dave Rado; 03-03-2009, 08:32 AM.Comment
