Judges should score from ringside, since that is always where tehy have scored from. It is a matter of consistency, fights get scored differently based on tv then when you are live. Saying which is better is a matter of preference.
Judges should not score fights at ringside.

No you don't, the only benefit is you can hear the impact of a fighter punches and get a feel for how powerful they are. Other than that on TV you get replays of knockdowns, multiple angles, fouls on the blindside of the ref, you can see whether punches are cleanly making contact or just falling short due to an opponents gloves or reflexes.Comment

yep one of these days hopefully.
time constraints involved.
theres a lot of hurdles. who would ask for a replay?
the guy thats loosing trainer when his fighter needs a break?
the fighter when he says he was headbutted?
one of don kings buddy judges when his fighter is hurt?
the announcers?Last edited by STEELHEAD; 03-01-2009, 02:44 PM.Comment

I hate when people score from TV for the reasons you listed. I am sorry, things should stay as they are with the judges. HBO deicdes the replays and that easily can color the fight one way.No you don't, the only benefit is you can hear the impact of a fighter punches and get a feel for how powerful they are. As for replay, I am more open to that since a ref only has 2 eyes, maybe have a second ref that watches a live feed from HBO with a digital recorder so he can go back on his own to look at it and not rely on HBO replays. That would probably not interfere with a fight to much.Comment

HBO is producing the fight (or whoever) is choosing how to show the fight. When you are ringsinde YOU get to choose what you are looking at.
We will never agree with this, btw.Comment

I like doing things how they have always been done, things should not be changed unless they have to.
I do not see why judging from TV is any better, or how it really changes anything. 10 people watching boxing will all possibly see 10 different things, no matter how the fight is viewed this will never change. Replays are not decided by the judges but by HBO producers.Comment

I didn't say use a HBO broadcast, it's why I said no audio because the crowd & HBO will favour who they want. You could though set up slow motion replay of any Knockdown and say if they had 4 cameras set up on each side of the ring be able to switch between any of the 4 with the click of a button within the minute rest period judges should be able to rewind to certain points from the last round.Comment

You would need some real savy judges for that, I like to keep fighting judging as simple as possible. It is not a terrible idea, I just think you can never do away with the human element of fight judging (and for that matter I like ti the way it is, it makes for lots of lively discussion).I didn't say use a HBO broadcast, it's why I said no audio because the crowd & HBO will favour who they want. I am fine with replay for the ref though, it is tough for the ref to see everything, so I am cool with that as long as it does not interupt the flow of the fight. There are 3 judges why can there not be a second replay ref?Comment

Yea, thats what I'm getting at. It would be tough to implement but for Knockdowns and Fouls which were blatently called wrong or completely missed there should be a second ref.You would need some real savy judges for that, I like to keep fighting judging as simple as possible. But for instance if Judges were allowed to have more angles so perhaps just on camera in an elevated position without Audio, It's just recently I have seen a few dodgy decisions IMO like Holyfield-Valuev, John-Juarez, Santa Cruz-Casamayor has made me a little angry and very hard to score fights like Hopkins-Calzaghe etc. The use of a elevated Camera could be helpful.Comment
