Clinching should be a fundamental staple in your fight game..

Serioulsy not so much on the Ruiz tip. But how many guys have we seen go down recently?

All because guys are not properly prepared or have the sense to tie up. It is a smart tactic, can save you when you are hurt, and kills the other fighters momentum at times.

Diaz crumbled down the stretch. So did Cotto. Guys have to be smarter down the stretch of a fight.

I agree, clinching is a big part of professional boxing, all fighters should know how to do it at the right moments.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with it at all. If you tie a guy up because he's getting off good, it's a smart move.

I see fighters make this mistake all of the time. Only a few guys do it.

Another thing is once you clinch you turn them to back them up. That's also an excellent tactic.

chris john stopped clinching and let juarez get on the inside.
that cost him the fight at the end, cos that gave juarez his rythm back and more confidence.

also on the jmm - diaz, if marquez would have clinched, i think it would have made things a little easier for him. campbell did it to diaz and diaz was uncomfortable all that night, although the cut also influenced that, but still.

mosley shoes us that perfectly against margarito. he didnt let him fight on the inside and we all kno what happened next =P

clinching is only acceptible when you're hurt and only for just so long.

We see it all the time. Oral couldn't clinch to gather himself. He opted to try and tough it out. He eventually went down.

Ortiz should have tied up Maidana when he was hurt. He opted to back up and got caught even worse with his hands down.

You have to clinch to break up some of the momentum of a fighter who is on a roll.
