And the inevitable race wars begin. What a surprise.
Why Does JMM Get Hit Clean So Much?

He's older now, so he gets hit more than usual, but like mrpain said he made adjustments and didn't get hit as much towards the end. Diaz was landing that jab and left hook quite a bit, but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome the sharp shooting and combination punching that Marquez brings.Comment

Chad Dawson and Paul Williams are in no way better then Marquez.
They haven't done ANYTHING to deserve being called the best.
and paul williams is taken on all challengers and winning in exciting fights, and chad dawson is undefeated at his weight for the past 5 years..if marquez was the same wight as dawson he would get koed.Comment

he's overrated like pac is overrated.. you have guys like paul williams and chad dawson shut out of the p4p rankings because they are black while guys like marquez and pac are praised for gettng beat up in every fight.
if marquez ever decides to fight a prime black fighter you will see he is no match for them. same goes for pac. they run from the best black fighters and will only fight themselvesComment

This is my 1 problem with him. Im a huge JMM fan. I remember when MAB & EM were in there prime and killing everyone, I always felt that JMM was the best of the 3. He was just a brilliant techniqal fighter. Then the fight came with Pac. Keep in mind that I was a big Pac fan at the time also. Everyone came away sweating both guys after that fight but I came away dissapointed in both guys. Pac blew a 4pt first round lead while throwing basicaly one punch the whole fight while JMM is supposed to be this brilliant technician but got hit with the same punch over & over again the whole fight.
Now obviously both guys have improved alot since then but nearly every single JMM fight I watch is the same. He still takes a ton of clean shots in every fight and I just dont get it. There are alot of guys who take a ton of clean shots but I dont care because I dont consider then to be the brilliant technique guys like JMM. I see all the other pure boxers and they dont take those same clean shots, e****aly the elite guys. Now I use to cut JMM a break because some of those fights were against Southpaws which can always catch you but he was even getting hit clean by average Southpaws. Then I also cut him a break because he a counter puncher but he still is pretty aggressive but still. He's fighting righties like Diaz, an older MAB, and he's still taking too many shots if you ask me. Even in the 2nd Pac fight.
I look at a guy like Floyd and in his prime, I cant see a right handed fighter hitting him with hardly a single clean punch. Even if he fought the WW's right now, I dont think none of them would hit him clean. Thats not to say they cant win by just overpowering him and lighting up his arms, shoulders, and gloves but I cant see him taking the shots JMM takes. I just dont think JMM should be taking those kind of shots for the kind of fighter he is. Its like on one hand he's the best techniqal figher in the game and on the other hand he's the worst defensive guy in the game and those 2 things dont usually go together. If you have great techniqe then you usually have good D and he's also considered to be one of the smartest guys out there. How does he get hit clean so much, he gets staggered, and he's busted up in nearly every fight. Even against average guys he gets swolle up
Marquez tries to stay in position to counter punch alot of the time.
Unlike Morales and Barrera who try to go
Block>Block>Block>counter
Marquez tries to go:
Slip>Counter
When you go Slip>Counter you end up being able to counter more effectively than by going Block>Block>Block>Counter. This is because when Marquez slips a shot, if you watch his fights frame by frame you'll see that one hand is smothering one of his opponents shots (normally not noticed), while the other is in the perfect position to hit his opponent clean.
You will also end up flustering your opponents by going Slip>Counter and you'll probably confuse them and make them tentative.
The disadvantage is that a miscalculation will let make you get hit in the face.Comment
