What can I say... This likely was the best fight I've seen in many years. Juan Manuel Marquez showed resolve, determination, and pinpoint accuracy in this great win. I see people dissing Diaz's punching power, but from what I saw Diaz was throwing some very hard shots tonight. I know he has slapped with his punches in the past, but not tonight. Keep in mind that Diaz is the naturally larger man as well, so Marquez really showed a great chin (and it is testament to Pacquaio's power). The main thing I take away from this is Marquez beat Diaz at his own fight. I have never seen Marquez fight even remotely that style before, but look at how he excelled at it. Winky Wright would be best served at taking cues from this fight on how to beat a volume puncher. I'd love to see Marquez fight Nate Campbell or the winner or loser of Pacquiao/Hatton. Mayweather is way out of Marquez's league, and Marquez outclassses any Junior Lightweight or Lightweight out there. I'm a fan of Juan "The Baby Bull" Diaz, so it disturbed me to see him get knocked out (though I was pulling for Marquez). I hope he'll be the same fighter after this, but I really doubt it.
Does anyone have the judge's official scores at the time of the stoppage?
Yeah Pac fought Diaz for the belt at 135 or as u say a washed up Delahoya..That was tough competition?? If you are not a Floyd fan I understand but dont just make up ****..Floyd schools JMM..
Floyd struggled and ran from Baldomir. Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan walked out on his ass. I'm not so sure Floyd schools JMM.
poontango,Dude, Mayweather's a *****. He only fights guys he can beat. What do Mosley, Marg's, Pac, Cotto, Clottey, Cintron, Judah all have in common? I'll try to spell it out for you numbnuts.
Floyd Mayweather Jr fought Judah while he was champ. Mosley didn't want to fight the upcoming hungry Mayweather but only the famous rich Mayweather. Margarito is and always was an overrated bar fighter now a CHEATER. Arum hid Cotto from PBF at 140 saying "Miguel Cotto is not ready for PBF" after the Gatti fight (Cotto/Hatton) were there remember? Cintron has only fought Margarito out of all them guys you listed & ducked Clottey to move up and get beat twice in one fight by Martinez. Pacquiao is the only worth while fight at this point "IF" PBF were to come back out of retirement.
lets look at GAYweathers last fights:
Baldomir, Old Ass punching bag Gatti, Zab perennial underachiever Judah, Old ass Delahoya, Old ass Sharmba Mitchell, and Ricky Hatton which is the only in his prime guy he fought.
Baldomir was recognize 147 champ (Who wouldn't fight him for a title)? Looks like AntFONIO FRAUDARITO may fight him in Mexico?
Arturo Gatto was a champ at 140 (Who wouldn't fight him for the title)? I believe Miguel Cotto wanted to at one time.
Zab Judah, you just mentioned him in the above paragraph but won't give
Mayweather credit for the win? Judah was a champ at 147.
Oscar De La Hoya, Now all of sudden he was old when Floyd fought him but
Pacquiao fought him a year later at a weight Oscar hasn't fought at in 10 YEARS
but your probably the type of guy that would give credit to pacquiao for that win & not Floyd (Whatever) Floyd moved up to 154 & captured a Jr Middle weight title.
Ricky Hatton, I believe Manny Pacquiao is going to fight Hatton in May almost 2 years after Floyd. So that's TWO fighters Pacquiao is fighting that Mayweather fought.
Get over it dude. Mayweather aint ****. And no hot chick avatar on your profile is gonna change that.
I think you need to get over it because your a hypocrite with NO chicks so your doing bad double time.
Great fight,My hat goes off to both fighter. They both fought very well but in the end Marquez showed he was the better and more polished fighter. At the same time Marquez showed a flaw in his game. He looked very uncomfortable facing a in your face pressure fighter (not implying tha being punched at repeatedly would feel good to anybody but thats the profesion they chose). I know many will disagree because he fought so well against pacquiao. Pacquiao is a pressure fighter but he fights in spurts in the other hand Diaz brings pressure throughout the entire fight. I'm not saying he would've won but If Diaz had put more emphasis on going to the body instead of head hunting most of the fight atleast it would've gone to the cards...And as far as Marquez calling out PBF I think it's more of a bargaining tool for the Pacquiao fight. With that in mind the fight will happen if PBF shows interest and calls Golden boy. I would root for Marquez in that fight. I believe it wouldn't be as lopsided as many people here think. I see a close decision but in the end PBF would prove to be too slick and too big. As intriguing as that match-up is I would still prefer to see Marquez vs PacquiaoIII. Ok fellas I picked JMM by k.o in ten. So I was off by a round, show me some love. This is what Richie Marotta, Max Kellerman, Doug Fischer, and yours truly have been talking about for years. The cream always rises to the top no matter how much you try to suppress it. JMM has to be considered one of theee best Mexican fighters of all time and one of the finest, classiest of this generation. Sorry MAB, sorry Erik Morales, you guys dont hold up to this guy. He is class personified.
Dont look for Mayweather to come out of retirement to fight JMM. Mayweather is an overrated clown who only wants winnable fights. Pac may be forced to fight JMM just by sheer virtue of JMM's undeniable will and newfound public appreciation.
As for Chris John, poor guy got viciously robbed. I'm telling you I think Rocky Juarez may be backed by Keyzer Soze the way this guy keeps getting breaks like this.
Floyd's a overrated clown who would still punish jmm's ass.
