Rogan Knocks Skelton Out, Cinderella Story Continues

A year ago, heavyweight Martin Rogan (12-0, 6KOs) was a virtual unknown and driving a taxi cab to support his family. Last December, he upset Olympic gold medal winner Audley Harrison by winning a hard-fought ten round decision. At the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, Rogan did it again by stopping Matt Skelton (22-3, 19KOs) in eleven to win the Commonwealth heavyweight title in an even bigger stunner. [details]

Did you see the fight, Beeps?

It was like watching Ray Robinson vs. prime Ali for the skills on display. Real textbook stuff.

Rogan fought Skelton's fight to a tee... leaning on, body weight, lots of rough stuff... but Rogan beat him at his own game.

I had it 96-94 Rogan after 10, but it looked like Matt was going to rally for a lucky escape draw.

Yeah, he's going down the same path Skelton himself went down. When I heard Tim Witherspoon say he'd go far, I assumed Tim was just being polite, but Rogan seems to be doing his best to get as far as he can with what he's got.

It was a very gutsy performance from both men tonight. I didn't think Skelton would ever be knocked out in his career but he looked knackered after about 6. He did well to come back into it a bit in the 9th and 10th when he started to box, Rogan was clearly flagging as well. But credit to Rogan, despite not having great technique or skills, he sure is tough and deserved the win.

Didn't think that was going to happen. Maybe we can get this guy in with haye if he dont get a klit fight even though i don't think he'd win but if he did it would further is cinderella story. Bettern yet he should try to get Chagaev and try to do what is victim couldn't.

This is a great story indeed. I would actually want to see this fight. Too bad he's 37 and just getting going now. Good luck to him though
