Pavlik Shakes Off The Past, Time To Build A Future

By Jake Donovan - The fight with Marco Antonio Rubio officially lasted nine rounds, but it was clear shortly after the opening bell that lineal middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik was already all the way back from his one-sided points loss to Bernard Hopkins last October. [details]

if mr. pavlik wants to shake off the past and focus on the future, he really has to add new dimensions to his game, otherwise he will only be good beating fighters on rubio's level and not the elites in and around his weight class...

Pavlik would put in on Mundine. He would be knocked out worse than Miranda and Taylor.

Pavlik has nothing to be ashamed of. Light heavyweight champ Virgil Hill got his title took by the legendary Thomas Hearns in a great performance, picked himself up, won the title again and defended it ten more times. Pavlik would be wise to stay at 160 and clean house.

Pavlik got his brain damaged in the first fight against Taylor. They should have stopped that fight but the damage was solidified against B-Hop. Pavlik will only be able to knock out no name blown-up junior middleweights (he dissed Taylor for doing the same thing?) and will not beat any real opposition. I think 2 Arthur Abraham left hooks would knock him out cold.

I agree. I think he can be a long-standing, and great middleweight champ. Even Hopkins said so. He had nothing but good things to say about Pavlik after their fight, and let's remember, Kelly's still pretty green when it comes to the top-level competition.

At least in this fight, he showed more than just the ol' 1-2. He lead with some hooks, showed lateral movement, and even slipped a few punches. If he keeps working on those things that Hop told him to, he could develop into a great champ.
